New Zodiac Signs!
Posted by cgreddy at January 13, 2011 05:38 PM
I have read a few of the many articles about this that are floating around the internet. What I am wondering is, how could the original astronomers that started the Zodiac signs forget to mention that they will change?
"We're off by about 10 degrees or so, a twelfth of the way around," Kunkle said.

The only logical explanation I can think of has to do with when the Zodiac was actually established. In ancient times, astronomers divided the sky into 12 sections to designate the months and constellations to create the signs of the Zodiac. This can date back as far as 3,000 years. Today, we know that the Earth spins on an axis, tilted by about 23 and a half degrees with respect to the Sun's plane, and that, because of gyroscopic effects, the constant gravitational force of the Sun, Moon and planets cannot cause an actual change in the tilt of the Earth's axis; however, it will cause a change in orientation, which is called the precession of the equinoxes. I am not positive, but I believe this was the cause of the change in Zodiac signs. With such limited knowledge and resources in "BC times," the original astronomers that started the Zodiac signs had no way of predicting this type of change.

I was actually curious about why the zodiac signs had been changed so I decided to do some research. I found that the cause is Earth's wobble, which causes Earth's north pole to point to different stars over time. This obviously means that when the zodiac signs were first made, the Earth's relationship to the stars were different than they are now and that it will continue to change over time.

It is very interesting that the earth has such a small wobble, but over such a great amount of time can make such a big difference. I heard this only applies to people being born in 2009 or later though. As of now my sign is changed, but when it comes to horoscopes I will always be a leo.
