Tenure-track at Auburn University - east of Atlanta
The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at Auburn Univeristy invites applications for a tenure-track position, Assistant Professor of Chinese and Japanese, starting Fall Semester 2009, contingent upon final budget approval. Women and Minorities are encouraged to apply.
Commitment to undergraduate teaching is essential.
We are seeking a generalist to teach undergraduate introductory language and culture courses and to continue to build the Asian Studies program, effective August 16, 2009.
The teaching load is 3-2.
Area of specialization is open.
Required qualifications: PhD in Chinese or Japanese studies: native or near-native fluency in English, Japanese, and Mandarin (ABDs may be considered; however, appointment to the tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor requires the earned doctorate by August 15, 2009); evidence of superlative undergraduate teaching skills at the college level and of potential for successful research and scholarly/professional activities; eagerness to contribute to program expansion and departmental engagements as well as demonstrated competence in computer assisted instruction and foreign language pedagogy is highly desirable.
The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work in the U.S. at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin, and to continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
The candidate must be able to communicate effectively in English, Chinese and Japanese.
