University of Chicago - Chinese Cinema Tenure Track

The Committee on Cinema and Media Studies (CMS) at the University of Chicago, in collaboration with the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations, invites applications for a junior-level tenure-track position in Chinese-language cinema (that is, the cinematic traditions of mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the Chinese diaspora).

Review of Applications will begin on October 30, 2008.
The review will continue until the position is filled.

This position plays an important part in the recently approved joint Ph.D. program in East Asian Cinema Studies.

Command of the the relevant language/s is necessary.

Preference will go to those applicants who can also teach courses in CMS on topics outside their specializationm, such as film history, theory, and aesthetics, as well as related media such as video and television.

Letters of application should be accompanied by:
1) a CV
2) three letters of recommendation
3) a writing sample
4) a dissertation or book outline
5) sample syllabi, preferably for one graduate and one undergraduate course
The Ph.D. should be completed by August 2009
