Job Description: Plans, coordinates, and implements East Asian Studies Center’s (EASC) K-12 and general public outreach programs in compliance with IU, Center, federal, and private foundation policies and procedures. Manages the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA) K-12 teacher professional development program, which includes overseeing Teaching about Asia seminars for K-12 teachers throughout the Midwest and South and a national, weeklong Teaching East Asian Literature in the High School workshop each summer. Hires, trains, and supervises the three-member outreach staff; establishes procedures within the outreach programs; directs budgets and prepares expenditure reports; writes performance reports; collaborates with external organizations, external partners, and internal partners; coordinates EASC’s volunteer program for local outreach activities; edits a biannual newsletter for K-12 educators; and represents the Center at national workshops and conferences. This position is grant-funded.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in a field with an East Asian focus and working knowledge of an East Asian language; two years of international experience, including residence or extended travel overseas; and at three years of administrative experience, including event planning and preparing budget and financial reports required. Strong writing skills and the ability to work cooperatively with diverse actors both in and beyond the university, including Center faculty and staff, K-12 educators, and representatives of government agencies and private foundations needed.
