Tahoe-Baikal Institute's Summer Environmental Exchange program
From a REES alum:
The Tahoe-Baikal Institute has launched a special fund raising campaign to raise money to support the costs of one of our Summer Environmental Exchange participants. Mr. Dieudonne Tantoh Nforba (affectionately known as "Farmer" Tantoh) is a citizen of Cameroon who attended the Regional College of Agriculture, in Bambili, Cameroon. He studied spring water catchment protection using sustainable agro-forestry practices. After college, Tantoh returned to his home town of Nkambe, where he has worked with local youths and low-income farmers, introducing lawn creation and flower gardening and also organic farming techniques adaptable to the tropics thereby protecting the local environment. Currently Tantoh is self-employed as the Program Coordinator for the Save Your Future Association (SYFA) in Cameroon.
In order to further his dreams of bringing effective watershed management to rural Cameroon, Tantoh applied to the Tahoe-Baikal Institute's Summer Environmental Exchange program. He was one of 18 participants selected for the 2007 exchange. For those of you who aren't familiar with the TBI Summer Environmental Exchange, it is a 10 week long educations exchange program focused on watershed management. The group spends 5 weeks at Lake Tahoe in California and another 5 weeks at Lake Baikal in Russia. Throughout the 10 weeks, the participants meet with local scientists, policy makers, business leaders, and environmental activists at each lake. The group also conducts a variety of small hands-on research and ecological restoration projects. This program will be an incredible learning experience for Tantoh, which will provide him with numerous technical and leadership skills that he can apply to his work in Cameroon.

We need your involvement to help bring Tantoh here and to Russia. This will surely be a life changing experience for him--I hope you will consider supporting this cause with a donation (any amount, no matter how big or small, is a great help!) If you are unable to make a monetary donation, please at least share this information with your friends and family. As of today, we are about 1/3 of the way to our fund raising goal, but we need help spreading the word!
Thank you in advance for your support,
Jennifer C. Smith
