Political Science: The Department of Political Science at the University of Houston invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in Comparative Politics at the level of Assistant Professor beginning in the fall of 2010. We are seeking areas of specialization in democratization, political economy, comparative institutions,legislative-executive relations, and a regional specialization in Eastern Europe. Particularly important is a focus on the politics of former Soviet Bloc nations in the wake of the breakup of the Soviet Union. We are seeking candidates with a record of publication or indications of the potential to publish. A strong background in quantitative methods and game theory is required, including extensive graduate training in these areas. Candidates should provide a course transcript and a written example of their research demonstrating technical skills. Normal course load is two courses per semester. Successful candidates with the potential for excellence in scholarly research, a commitment to undergraduate and graduate training, and the potential to attract graduate students from Eastern Europe are preferred. Candidates must also have a Ph.D. in political science. We will begin reviewing application August 15 and continue until the position is filled.
