Job: Executive Director, Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan
Deadline: May 14, 2012
The Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan (SFK), part of the worldwide network of the Open Society Foundations (OSF), seeks qualified applicants for the position of Executive Director (ED).
The Open Society Foundations work to build vibrant and tolerant democracies whose governments are accountable to their citizens. To achieve this mission, the Foundations seek to shape public policies that assure greater fairness in political, legal, and economic systems and safeguard fundamental rights. On a local level, the Open Society Foundations implement a range of initiatives to advance justice, education, public health, and independent media. At the same time, OSF build alliances across borders and continents on issues such as corruption and freedom of information. The Foundations place a high priority on protecting and improving the lives of people in marginalized communities.
Investor and philanthropist George Soros established the Open Society Foundations, starting in 1984, to help countries make the transition from communism. OSF's activities have grown to encompass the United States and more than 70 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Each foundation relies on the expertise of boards composed of eminent citizens who determine individual agendas based on local priorities. For more information, please see www.soros.org.
Since 1995, SFK has supported civic initiatives in a variety of areas; current priorities include legal and education reform, media support, public health, youth, transparency and accountability, information and computer technology, and public administration. The work of the Foundation is governed by the strategic decisions and recommendations of its Supervisory Board and OSF, and is conducted in close cooperation with government institutions, civil society, and international organizations. For more information, please see www.soros.kg.
Based in Bishkek and reporting to a local Supervisory Board, the ED will be responsible for SFK's overall management, for implementing the policies and directives of the Board, and for ensuring the integrity and quality of the Foundation's programs.
