CFP Conference: Romanian Studies Conference

Deadline: December 15

In March 2013, Indiana University’s Romanian Studies Organization (RomSO) will host the sixth annual interdisciplinary Romanian Studies Conference for graduate students and recent PhDs in the humanities and social sciences. This year, University of Maryland professor Vladimir Tismaneanu will join the conference as keynote speaker. Professor Tismaneanu will introduce his recently published book, entitled The Devil In History: Communism, Fascism, and Some Lessons of the Twentieth Century.

We welcome paper proposals from graduate students and recent PhDs on any topic related to Romania, Moldova, or the Romanian diaspora in any discipline or methodology, including but not limited to history, political science, economics, international relations, anthropology, literature, sociology, musicology, and cultural studies. Especially encouraged are papers that take an interdisciplinary approach.

Please submit abstracts of 250-300 words, along with your contact information to RomSO@indiana.edu by December 15, 2012. Please submit abstracts in .doc file format rather than .docx or .pdf. We will be pre-circulating the papers so that our commentators can provide more extensive feedback. Notification emails will be sent out by January 15, 2013. Therefore, if your paper is selected we ask that you submit a completed paper by March 1, 2013.

Any other inquiries about the conference may be directed to the Indiana University Romanian Studies Organization at RomSO@indiana.edu.
