Job: Assoc. Prof/Prof. in Urban Studies and Urban Planning, EUSP

The Department of Political Science and Sociology at the European University in Saint-Petersburg opens a position of Associate Professor/Professor in Urban Studies and Urban Planning.

The Professor of Urban Studies and Urban Planning would teach courses, conduct sociological research, and give counsel on issues related to the social aspects of the modern city.

Urban Studies is an interdisciplinary field, so some competence in anthropology and architecture is required. Expertise in the theories of public sphere, civil society, and/or international political economy, is a plus. Knowledge of or at least interest in the city of Saint-Petersburg is necessary for a successful application. The Professor is expected to teach courses on Urban Studies and some other subfields of sociology and possibly anthropology. He or she is also expected to build a research collective from the faculty and graduate students of the University, with a potentiality of growing into a full scale interdisciplinary research center. Therefore, persons with some organizational experience will be given priority. When elected, the Professor is expected to be involved in the expertise of the urban development policies in Saint-Petersburg.

Salary is negotiable, and ranges from $55,000 to $80,000, in accordance with the Russian Labor Code. EUSP would especially prioritize applications from candidates combining scholarly excellence with contributions to wider public discussions, regular media appearances, etc.
