JOB: Dean of International Programs, European University at St. Petersburg

European University at St. Petersburg invites application for the position of its Dean of International Programs

Dean of EUSP International Programs leads the Department of International Programs (DIP) which is at the core of the internationalization strategy and activities of EUSP. With IMARES program started in 1998, it has the longest history in Russia of delivering international-standard MA education in Russian and Eurasian studies to students mostly from North America and Western Europe with occasional involvement of other parts of the world. DIP is a small and very dynamic unit pushing forward the frontiers of internationalization for the whole country, pioneering international programs not only in Russian and Eurasian politics, history and societies, but also in culture and the arts (MARCA program) and energy politics (ENERPO). DIP constantly works on quality assurance, involvement of the best international teaching staff and program promotion to a wider geography of students through a growing scholarship base.

The Dean of EUSP International Programs:
• Bears the ultimate responsibility for the success of DIP’s work including coordination of the directors of the three MA programs, overall development and promotion, and strategic planning and control of implementation.
• Works closely with the EUSP Rectorate on university strategic development including establishment of new programs, professorships/chairs, launch of new centers, raising funds for more scholarships, and introducing a practice of internships.
• Has knowledge of the current direction of Russian and Eurasian Studies scholarship and insight into what EUSP can offer in terms of international education outside area studies.
• Has clear understanding of current and future financial resources needed to realize the DIP’s plans.
• Develops strategic partnerships and associations to achieve the EUSP’s goals in the sphere of international educational.

Responsibilities also include:
• Submission of an annual budget for the Rectorate’s approval.
• Quality assurance to match the best international teaching and study practices.
• Overseeing the advertising activities of the DIP staff (brochures/posters, websites, conference participation, information sessions and tours etc).
• Development of the DIP network and building new collaboration links.
• Optimization of the use of resources.

Required qualifications:• Experience in organization and management of educational programs.
• Native or near native command of English and Russian.
• PhD or equivalent in social sciences or humanities in the area of Russian and/or Eurasian studies.

Summary of Position:
CIEE is seeking a Resident Director for the Russian Area Studies Program at the CIEE Study Center in St. Petersburg, Russia, founded in 1967. The Resident Director supports the quality and success of programs, coordinating multiple aspects of in- country operations as well as contributing to long-range planning, program evaluation, and development. The Resident Director is responsible for ensuring the highest levels of program quality and customer satisfaction.

Primary Responsibilities:
Academic: Coordinate the academic program in cooperation with host institution faculty and staff; offerings; teach one language course per semester; advise students on course selection prior to the beginning of each semester; and service as the first point of contact for any students requests for special academic exceptions, complaints, appeal etc.

Student Services:
Hold regular and well publicized office hours; confer with individual students as necessary and hold regular group meetings; and plan and participate in all aspects of services (visas and other legal procedures that apply to students, pre-departure orientation, program orientation, cross-cultural information and training, program excursions and field trips, cultural and social activities, student support, etc.)

Health and Safety:
Monitor events in community related to health and safety risks; write annual safety audit covering health and safety information for participants, parents and sending schools; secure appropriate medical and professional services; maintain open communication among program sponsors and other who need to know of serious medical problems or injuries; develop and maintain emergency preparedness processes and crisis response plan; communicate to participants applicable codes of conduct and take appropriate action when they are in violation.

Program Evaluation:
Manage the student evaluation processes after orientation and at the conclusion of the program, including both evaluations of the program as a whole and of individual courses; help facilitate the visits of sending institution and evaluation teams (providing information, coordinating schedules, establishing appropriate local contacts, setting up group and/or individual meetings with students); and write report at the conclusion of each academic year.

Program Management:
Manage all aspects of the program in accordance with CIEE policies and agreements; manage relationship with host institution; participate in the formulation of the annual budget.

Marketing:
Participate in the writing of program materials (promotional materials, catalogue copy, bulletins, handbooks, arrival information, orientation information, pre-departure reading list, course syllabi, curricula vitae of teachers, information concerning the country, the location and the host institution).

Other:
Assist as needed in the development and implementation of new CIEE programs, customized programs, CIEE Annual Conference sessions, and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
Master's Degree required, PhD preferred
Fluency in Russian and English (both written and oral)
Knowledge of Russian culture, history, and academic environment
Professional work experience in an international education-related position
Familiarity with U.S. higher education and direct experience with U.S. college and university students
Strong leadership skills, meticulous attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and commitment to customer service Willingness and ability to live full-time in St. Petersburg
Demonstrated integrity, initiative and professionalism
Ability to apply good judgment under pressure and to make reasoned and

CFA: The Einstein Fellowship 2015: Awarded by the Einstein Forum and the Daimler and Benz Foundation

The Einstein Forum and the Daimler and Benz Foundation are offering a fellowship for outstanding young thinkers who wish to pursue a project in a different field from that of their previous research. The purpose of the fellowship is to support those who, in addition to producing superb work in their area of specialization, are also open to other, interdisciplinary approaches – following the example set by Albert Einstein.

The fellowship includes living accommodations for five to six months in the garden cottage of Einstein`s own summerhouse in Caputh, Brandenburg, only a short distance away from the universities and academic institutions of Potsdam and Berlin. The fellow will receive a stipend of EUR 10,000 and reimbursement of travel expenses.

Candidates must be under 35 and hold a university degree in the humanities, in the social sciences, or in the natural sciences. Applications for 2015 should include a CV, a two-page project proposal, and two letters of recommendation.

All documents must be received by January 15, 2014.

At the end of the fellowship period, the fellow will be expected to present his or her project in a public lecture at the Einstein Forum and at the Daimler and Benz Foundation. The Einstein Fellowship is not intended for applicants who wish to complete an academic study they have already begun.

A successful application must demonstrate the quality, originality, and feasibility of the proposed project, as well as the superior intellectual development of the applicant. It is not relevant whether the applicant has begun working toward, or currently holds, a PhD.

PLEASE NOTE THAT NO FELLOWSHIPS WILL BE GIVEN FOR DISSERTATION RESEARCH. THE PROPOSED PROJECT MUST BE SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT IN CONTENT, AND PREFERABLY FIELD AND FORM, FROM THE APPLICANT’S PREVIOUS WORK.

Translators and proof readers needed for English version of Russian journal

Dear Colleagues,
My employer, the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, publishes an interdisciplinary religious studies quarterly of a largely theoretical direction (with quite a bit of historical material as well): Gosudarstvo, religiia, Tserkov' v Rossii i za rubezhom (www.religion.rane.ru). It has recently been decided that we will be publishing an English-language online version twice yearly with translations of a selection of the best articles. We plan on getting the first English issue out by the end of this calendar year.

As the editor of the English version, it's my job to recruit translators and proofreaders. If you are interested in either role (for the current issue or potentially for future issues), please reply to me, and feel free to pass on this information to anyone who may be interested. Both translation and proofreading will be financially compensated; contact me for details. Translators should be native English speakers (or have demonstrated equivalent fluency) with excellent knowledge of Russian. ZIMOS, the Institute for Central and East European Studies of The Catholic University of Eichstaett-Ingolstadt, in Upper Bavaria, invites research papers for its interdisciplinary Russian-language open-access web journal "Forum for Contemporary East European History and Culture" http://www1.ku-eichstaett.de/ZIMOS/forumruss.html.

We require properly footnoted, scholarly researched, well-structured, and thoroughly edited Russian-language texts with a length of no less than 4,000 and no more than 14,000 words. Papers should be based on primary as well as secondary sources, which are fully listed and adequately presented, in footnotes. You may also submit shorter essays, discussion pieces, and book reviews.

We are not only interested in original papers that have not yet been published anywhere. We are also happy to re-publish papers that might have already been printed in Russian or other languages before, but that are, so far, not freely available, in Russian language, on the WWW. In the case that a paper has been published in a Russian printed edition (journal, collected volume) or non-Russian outlet before, authors will have to provide an explicit permission, by the editors of the periodical, website or book where the article originally appeared, for re-publication as a Russian-language PDF file in our open-access web journal. We will usually not re-publish papers that are already available in Russian, on the WWW.

Papers accepted content-wise for publication will only be published in case of a proper adaptation of its linguistic quality etc.) to the standards of the "Forum" by the author/s. All versions of the papers should be submitted as MS Word Documents.

For authors who wish to publish an English-, German- or Ukrainian-language text on the special issue's topic in Russian language, we can provide qualified Russian translating services. We have professional interpreters who will provide high quality translations which will be edited stylistically and orthographically - by the journal's editorial board members.

Unfortunately, however, we do not have funds to pay translators. Thus, we regret to state that the costs for translation will, as outlined below,have to borne fully by the author her- or himself. In addition, after provision of a draft translation by our expert-translator, authors will be required to carefully check the translated Russian draft version, before the translator produces the final version of the text for publishing.

The translator will, after delivering a satisfactory final version of the translation, have to be paid, by the author/s,EUR0.07 per word of the English, German or Ukrainian original version of the article, i.e., for instance, EUR350 for a 5,000-word article. The word count includes also non-Russian bibliographical literature listed in the footnotes that will not be translated into Russian or transcribed into Cyrillic, yet the formal style of which will be adapted to the format of the "Forum" by the translator. The copyright of the Russian version of the article remains with the translator until the author has made payment for the translation.

Authors of texts that have been published in English, German or Ukrainian before are advised to clarify with the editors of the periodical, book, or non-Russian web site (where the paper
originally appeared) whether re-publication in a Russian-language web journal is permissible. The editors of the "Forum" will not take responsibility for any violations of copyright.
