Kenyon Collete
Marilyn Yarbrough Dissertation/Teaching Fellowship
This award is named in honor of the late Marilyn Yarbrough, Kenyon parent and trustee. A legal scholar and university administrator who was a former editor of the Black Law Journal and a member of the Pulitzer Prize Board, Marilyn Yarbrough often addressed gender and racial discrimination in her scholarship and teaching.
One of the most significant challenges confronting small liberal arts colleges in the United States today is increasing the members of underrepresented groups teaching at such institutions. A diverse faculty benefits students, faculty, and administrators alike by enriching the nature of the education experience for all. We recognize, though, that young scholars who are members of underrepresented groups frequently choose to pursue their careers as teachers and scholars at research universities rather than at small liberal arts colleges. In order to encourage such scholars to consider college rather than university teaching, Kenyon College offers the Marilyn Yarbrough Dissertation/Teaching Fellowship. The program is for scholars in the final stages of their doctoral work who need only to finish the dissertation to complete requirements for the Ph.D. We hope the experience of living and working for a year at Kenyon will encourage these Fellows to consider a liberal arts college as a place to begin their careers as teachers and scholars.
Kenyon will provide a stipend of $32,500, plus health benefits, housing, and a small moving allowance. The College will also provide an allowance to cover travel to conferences or for consultation with the dissertation director. Kenyon will assist the Fellow in finding college housing. The Fellow will be provided an office, a networked computer, and secretarial support services. Faculty colleagues at Kenyon recognize and embrace the opportunity to welcome and mentor new faculty members.
The Fellow is expected to write the dissertation and to teach one course each semester, usually in the Fellow's general research area. Fellows are also expected to offer a college lecture or departmental
seminar on the dissertation topic at some point during the academic year in residence. Kenyon College assumes that the Fellow will participate in the intellectual life of his/her home department, as
well as in the broader cultural life of the College. Our primary expectation, however, and the main focus of this fellowship, is the completion of the dissertation.
Eligibility to apply for the Marilyn Yarbrough Dissertation/Teaching Fellowship is limited to those meeting all of the following four criteria who are citizens or nationals of the United States or otherwise 'protected individuals' as defined in 8 USC 1324b(a)(3)(B).
* Members of underrepresented groups (e.g., ethnic minorities; women in fields that attract mostly men, or men in fields that attract mostly women; and persons who are first-generation college attendees).
* Individuals who are enrolled in a research-based Ph.D. program in one of the following fields: African and African American Studies, American Studies, Anthropology, Art, Art History, Asian Studies, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Classics, Dance, Drama, Economics, English, Environmental Studies, History, Humanities, International Studies, Legal Studies, Mathematics, Modern Languages and Literature, Music, Neuroscience, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Public Policy, Psychology, Religious Studies, Scientific Computing, Sociology, and Women's and Gender Studies.
* Individuals who aspire to a teaching and research career.
* Persons who have not yet earned a doctoral degree at any time and in any field.
To apply: go to https://employment.kenyon.edu
You will be asked to supply:
* Letter of Application (your cover letter should address the four criteria for eligibility)
* Vita
* Three (3) Letters of Reference (including one from the dissertation advisor.)
Review of applications will begin December 15, 2009 and will continue until the fellowship is awarded.
Kenyon College is an equal opportunity employer. It is the College's policy to evaluate qualified applicants without regard to age, ancestry, disability, national or ethnic origin, race,
religion, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, political belief or activity, or status as a veteran. Kenyon welcomes diversity and encourages the applications of women and minority candidates.

Radcliffe Institute, Harvard
Deadline: October 1, 2009
Open to: Women and men from across the United States and throughout the world, including developing countries
Funding: Stipend
Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program, Harvard University, UK
The Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program is a scholarly community where individuals pursue advanced work across a wide range of academic disciplines, professions, and creative arts. Radcliffe Institute fellowships are designed to support scholars, scientists, artists, and writers of exceptional promise and demonstrated accomplishment who wish to pursue work in academic and professional fields and in the creative arts. In recognition of Radcliffe’s historic contributions to the education of women and to the study of issues related to women, the Radcliffe Institute sustains a continuing commitment to the study of women, gender, and society. Applicants’ projects need not focus on gender, however. Women and men from across the United States and throughout the world, including developing countries, are encouraged to apply. We seek to build a community of fellows that is diverse in every way. Former fellows of the Radcliffe Institute (1999 to present) are not eligible to apply.
Selection Process
Each application is reviewed in a dual-tiered process by peers in relevant disciplines. Applications are judged on the quality and significance of the proposed project and the applicant’s record of achievement and promise. Applicants are notified of the results of the selection process in March. Cluster proposals from two to five individuals, all of whom fit the criteria status for individual applicants, will be accepted for review.
Terms and Conditions
Stipends are funded up to $65,000 for one year with additional funds for project expenses. Some support for relocation expenses is provided where relevant. We work with fellows with families who have particular issues connected to relocating to smooth the transition. If so directed, Radcliffe will pay the stipend to the fellow’s home institution. Fellows receive office or studio space and access to libraries and other resources of Harvard University during the fellowship year, which extends from early September 2010 through June 30, 2011. Visual artists and film, video, sound and new media artists who do not have full time academic appointments may apply to come for one semester only. The stipend is $32,500.00. Fellows are expected to be free of their regular commitments so they may devote themselves full time to the work outlined in their proposal. Since this is a residential fellowship, we expect fellows to reside in the Boston area during that period and to have their primary office at the Institute so that they can participate fully in the life of the community.
Applicants will be notified in March of the results.

The D.S. Likhachev International Charitable Foundation
The name of the Academician D.S. Likhachev is symbolic for the 20 century Russian culture. A Russian intellectual, survivor of the Soviet Gulag, a great scientist and thinker, a popular figure, he managed to preserve under the totalitarian regime his integrity, honor and fielty to Russia. In the 90s he has become a moral gold standard for many Russians. During his late years D.S. Likhachev conceived the idea of a humanitarian charitable foundation. The idea has been implemented after his death.
The D.S. Likhachev International Charitable Foundation had been founded in St.Petersburg at the end of 2001. The mission for the Foundation was stated by D.S. Likhachev himself as promotion of the Russian culture, education, humanities as well as affirmation of democratic and humanistic values in the society.

The Foundation is a joint project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Science and supported by both public and private funds.
Mir means Community. Peace. World. The three meanings of this word inspire and define Russkiy Mir's mission - to promote understanding and peace in the world by supporting, enhancing and encouraging the appreciation of Russian language, heritage and culture. Russkiy Mir promotes the teaching of the Russian language within Russia and abroad; brings Russia's rich history to life, and showcases vibrant examples of Russian art and culture around the world; reconnects the Russian community abroad with their homeland, forging new and stronger links through cultural and social programs, exchanges and assistance in relocation.

Regimes of Historicity and Discourses of Modernity and Identity, 1900-1945, in East-Central, Southeastern and Northern Europe
BRIEF INTRODUCTION
For the full research description, please see the attached file, or the announcement on the Centre’s homepage at www.cas.bg
The Regimes of Historicity project focuses on the comparative analysis of the various ideological traditions thematising the connection between modernity and historicity – a connection lying at the core of modern identity-narratives in the post-romantic era (1900-1945) - in three “small-state” regions: East-Central, Southeastern, and Northern Europe. The choice of ideologies as the vantage point of our research involves visions of past and future, of continuity and discontinuity in a wide spectrum of twentieth-century social and political thinking about modernity and identity. Above all, we plan to concentrate on the ways these traditions have been shaped and interpreted by the different branches of the humanities and the newly formed social sciences. This will make it possible to reconsider the usual metaphors rooted in temporal dimensions that are used for non-core Western cultures, such as asynchrony, backwardness, catching-up, whose moral and
normative implications have been at the core of modernist and anti-modernist discourses ever since the dawn of the twentieth century. The process of cultural appropriation and mediation will be a central axis of investigation pointing to the complex interplay of local traditions and “imported” ideological packages. Extending two regional comparative paradigms – the long-standing Südostforschung and the more recent Nordic Spaces research – the project undertakes a comparison across historical regions testing for regional peculiarities and common European phenomena. This is also seen as opening up the possibility for formulating heuristic regional typologies, looking at the specific mechanisms of framing modernity in Southeastern, Central and Northern Europe.
As it is known, the entire discussion of regional differences (e.g. between East, West, North, Centre, Southeast, etc.) has been typically framed in terms of temporality – in notions such as backwardness, overtaking, progress and so on. Our reconstruction of the patterns of historicity - of the temporal visions historical actors held of their own contexts – seeks to challenge the centre-periphery backwardness narrative and render a more balanced picture of historical difference. We also see our research as offering an alternative to post-colonial narratives, which focus on the fundamental difference of the European core and the other, in that in our case the whole framework of otherness is relativised and fine-tuned. Comparing the various peripheries to each other could give us a certain insight into the issue of legacies – into the way tradition is framed in a Protestant, Orthodox or Muslim context; or in the long-term impact of competing
post-imperial and nation-state models of framing the past. We thus hope to develop a relativised but not necessarily relativist vision of political modernity capable to substantiate the vision of multiple modernities and thus open up the discussion of how imported models and local traditions are related to each other.
The two-year research agenda will be accomplished via four closely interrelated components that allow for the deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the theoretical problems in focus: Senior Fellowship Programme, Junior Fellowship Programme, Extended Colloquia and Guest-Scholar Programme. The Regimes of Historicity Fellows will work on their individual case studies and come together for joint working sessions, colloquia and conferences to discuss each others’ findings in the multidisciplinary and international environment provided by the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia. The core group of 10 junior scholars who will be selected via an open Call for Applications will be supervised by the project convenor Prof. Dr Diana Mishkova and the senior Fellows – researchers with extensive experience in the thematic field.

Fellowships and Seminars: The Intersection of Diaspora, Immigration, and Gender in World History, OSU
Fellowships and Seminars at The Center for Historical Research, The Ohio State University
The Center for Historical Research brings together faculty, students, and the general public to examine the historical foundation and development of critical issues of global importance. The Center offers resident fellowships for senior and junior faculty, as well as those completing dissertations. We also invite members of the academic community and independent scholars to make presentations at our seminars.
In the academic years 2009-2011, we will be studying, “The Intersection of Diaspora, Immigration, and Gender in World History.? We believe that a gendered analysis of group migrations may reveal new patterns in diaspora and immigration history, shed light on specific migrations, and bridge the historiographical gap between diaspora and immigration histories. A gendered analysis of group migrations may help us better differentiate the meaning of forced and voluntary migrations, and the processes by which people maintained, discarded, and transformed their cultures, and their host cultures.
For the 2009-2010 academic year we are conducting a fellowship competition and seeking presenters whose research falls in the broad period extending from the Ancient World through the 18th century. (The 2010-2011 academic year will cover from the 19th century to the present.) We invite scholars from all disciplines, studying any peoples and geographic area(s) relevant to our program. Application information for fellowships can be found on our website, http://chr.osu.edu/, and are due by February 1, 2009. Fellowship: E. Europe and Eurasia
Fellowship Opportunity for Humanities Research
Applications are now available for the 2009-2010 National Endowment for Humanities Collaborative Research Fellowship.
Application deadline: February 15, 2009.
The Collaborative Research Fellowship, administered by American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS and the National Council for Eurasian and East European Research (NCEEER) with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, provides up to $40,000 for four to twelve months of collaborative research in Eastern Europe and Eurasia.
The Collaborative Research Fellowship supports a wide range of
humanities topics including, but not limited to, linguistics, literature, history, philosophy, archaeology, comparative religion, ethics and the history criticism, and theory of the arts. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or other terminal degree and have a working knowledge of one or more of the languages of East-Central Europe or Eurasia, or be able to demonstrate that such language proficiency is not critical for the successful completion of their particular projects. Additionally, all projects must involve at least one
collaborator from the region.
Program organizers will make every effort to support the work of U.S.
humanists from fields under-represented in scholarship on East-Central
Europe and Eurasia. In the past, for example, American studies, art
history, comparative literature, cultural anthropology, musicology, and philosophy have been supported through the Collaborative Research Fellowship. All awards place a premium on the potential for further valuable humanistic collaboration beyond the specific award period of the NEH fellowship. American Councils and NCEEER encourage applications from scholars proposing innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to their subjects.
Applicants must propose to conduct at least four months of full-time
research, of which two months must be spent overseas. Scholars who are
able to begin their projects between May 2009 and May 2010 are welcome to apply to this year's competition. U.S. citizenship, permanent resident status, or residency in the U.S. for three years before date of application is required.
