Day 2 & 3

Hello!

Sorry I didn't get a chance to write yesterday, I only was able to log in during the morning before my battery died. These past two days have been pretty uneventful, just spending time with the family. I've done some walking around the city, which still seems to amaze me as to how cute everything is- all the little boutiques and stands by the street. Everything here seems to be so cheap to me! Good news is that the movies come out the same time, so I'll definitely be going to see my movies here, and it's only 10 pesos which is basically $3 dollars!

Tomorrow I have a phone interview with the recruiting director for Oracle in Argentina. I've done some research and found the numbers for some other companies and I will go ahead and call tomorrow. Also, I think I'm going to downtown tomorrow afternoon to do some sight seeing and walking. Later this week or next week I'm going to Teatro Colon, which is the Opera House and it's beautiful. I'll also go visit La Case Del Congresso, which sounds exciting!

Like I said, pretty uneventful these past two days. Everyone here is so relaxed and no one is ever in a rush. Starting to learn my way around here, but I'm hoping I can get an internship and start walking and doing things on a daily basis on my own. I will keep you posted on my experience here! Oh, one last thing, I found Seinfeld, CSI and Sex and the City, it's great. Some of it has spanish language voice overs and some just subtitles, either way, it's wonderful!!

xoxo,
G

Day 1: Finally Here

Buenos Aires, Argentina- what a cute, little place! After a terrible plane ride, I've finally made it here. International flights are not fun at all. I was hoping the plane would not be full so I could move around and lounge across two chairs. However, I was cornered into a window seat next to an older lady, who didn't really talk to me- only when she handed me a baby wipe and told me to wipe my table for germs; I guess that was nice of her. Needless to say, I couldn't get up to use the bathroom unless she was getting up to use the bathroom. The food was okay. Chicken, salad, pasta, bread roll, and Milano cookies for dinner. Fruit and a croissont for breakfast. The worst part was trying to sleep. I couldn't find a comfortable spot all night long, until about 5am, when we were only two hours from landing.

Also, this guy behind me was so annoying. He was wearing a Northwestern sweatshirt, and you could tell he was the type of man who spoke his mind about everything. Right when we took off, he called over a flight attendant and told him that the tv channels 5,6,8 and 13 were not working on his device. The flight attendant pretty much said I'll try and reset your channels. Then, probably ten minutes later, he called another flight attendant over and repeated the same thing. The flight attendant was like, there's nothing I can do; you could tell that the first flight attendant probably told the rest of them about this crazy guy. Then during the meal time, he proceeded to tell the flight attendant serving us our dinner that he wants him to tell his supervisor that they should strongly consider serving the drinks before the dinner. The flight attendant said something along the lines of, well I've been doing this for 25 years and I've only seen it done this way. Regardless, it was a bit all ridiculous but oh well- thought I'd share. Oh! Also, the flight had these monitors with like GPS. It showed a picture of US and South American, with a little plane on it's way to Argentina. Then it'd show you the time of where we left (Houston), time in Argentina, and how much time left. It was great- I enjoyed it.

Going through the immigration wasn't bad at all, not sure what all the fuss was about. I mean, yeah I had to wait in line for about 15-20 minutes but really that's no big deal, there were so many tourists! Then it took about 30 seconds for them to look and stamp my passport. Luggage wasn't bad at all, since we waited for a long time, the luggage belt was not even moving anymore and my bags were there.

I'm currently at Cafe M. I named the blog url CafeM, figured it reminded me of CafeM as M for Michigan, and then what seems to be my future hang out for the summer. The corner seat by the window with my wine glass of coke.

My family is doing well. Same old crazy, loving family. My grandparents are catering me which is nice, but I really hope I can get them to go out. That apartment is so small, and I think some fresh air is nice. Did I mention that it's right across from the polo field? My grandpa said I can go to the roof and watch the game from there- we were able to see it from the balcony, until the tree I planted about 19 years ago grew.

Alright, I think this finalizes day 1. I'm just at CafeM, waiting to Skype and then heading back up the apartment. Hope the grandparents are not getting worried!

G
