Redux Weekend and some big accomplishments
This weekend Dooley and Doolia prepared some favorite recipes from The Complete America's Test Kitchen TV Show Cookbook, multigrain bread, and Hot and Sour Soup. Both turned out superbly. Dooley has decided he actually prefers the Multigrain Bread to supermarket white bread--hooray! And the Hot and Sour Soup was fantastic. All that fussy cutting of the mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and pork is SO worth it.
The big accomplishments were that we junked our broken-down Honda. That's a big load off our backs. And we retrieved our washing machine, dryer, and extra refrigerator from our old place. Dooley, Doolia, and youngest daughter successfully hauled the heavy laundry machines up from the basement and into the UHaul truck. It was incredibly hard work, and we're all lucky that none of us sustained any injuries.
The black refrigerator had been stored empty in the old garage for nearly 8 months; we had been made to understand that it was broken, so we were going to have to save up for it to be repaired. But we got it into the truck, to our new place, and down the stairs, and into it's holding place until we had the money to fix it. Doolia had a brainstorm, though, why not plug it in and see if it did indeed work. And voilá! It works!! It was at the proper temperature in less than an hour. So we don't have to pay for repairs!! Now we just have to get it to fit in the kitchen. We paid nearly $1000 for that appliance about 10 years ago, and it's a much better machine than the one we've been using. So we're really excited that we get to use it.
So it was a banner weekend, and we're all really pumped about our successes.
