Abstract: People who are blind are good at navigating when it comes to getting to a specific destination but miss the visual cues in the journey. MiKnow will present the user with audio cues about things they are passing by reading RFID tags, using a combination of three things: a wearable, internet database connected computer; a central description database; and an online collaborative website to enter information into the database. This project is unique in that it will integrate with other collaborative projects, such as wikipedia and wikimapia, to populate RFID description information in the database. Contributions to the database are accepted from anyone in the the MiKnow community, thus making the maintenance of it a social and collaborative effort.
