University of California, Davis, Lecturer Position in the Program in Middle East/South Asia Studies
POSITION: Lecturer position in the Program in Middle East/South Asia Studies for the 2008-09 academic year.
DESCRIPTION: We anticipate the need to hire lecturers to teach Arabic courses for the 2008-2009 academic year. We anticipate there will be 9 courses, subject to administrative approval, and there may be additional support.
The Program in Middle East/South Asia Studies anticipates an opening in Modern Standard Arabic language courses that will include:
ARB-001 (2 sections) – Elementary Arabic 1, Fall Quarter 2008
ARB-002 (2 sections) – Elementary Arabic 2, Winter Quarter 2009
ARB-003 (2 sections) – Elementary Arabic 3, Spring Quarter 2009
ARB-021 – Intermediate Arabic 21, Fall Quarter 2008
ARB-022 – Intermediate Arabic 22, Winter Quarter 2009
ARB-023 – Intermediate Arabic 23, Spring Quarter 2009
***Successful candidates will also be considered to co-teach an intensive 15-unit course in Arabic during the 2008 Summer Session ***
In addition to teaching duties, must hold regularly scheduled office hours a minimum of three hours per week to provide the opportunity for consultations with students outside of the classroom.
QUALIFICATIONS: M.A. or Ph.D., college and university teaching experience required with demonstrated effective teaching in courses to be taught.
SALARY: Contingent upon qualifications and experience. Percent of employment is determined by number of courses taught.
SERVICE PERIOD:
Fall Quarter 2008: September 22 through December 12, 2008
Winter Quarter 2009: January 2 through March 21, 2009
Spring Quarter 2009: March 26 through June 12, 2009
