Syracuse University - Middle East Studies Post Doctoral Fellowship

The Middle Eastern Studies Program at Syracuse University is pleased to announce the availability of a Post-Doctoral Fellowship for the 2008-09 academic year. The fellowship will support a recent PhD scholar working on topics related to governance or international affairs in the Middle East. The fellowship period includes one academic year ( August 15 - May 15), plus one summer month (May 15 - June 15, 2009) with strong potential to extend a second year. The fellows will receive a stipend of $33,500 plus fringe benefits that provide health benefits through August 15, 2009. The fellowships are not restricted based on discipline.

Applicants must have completed a PhD between January 1, 2004 and July 1, 2008 from an accredited university in the United States, Europe or the Middle East and preferably have competence in Arabic. The fellowship requires residence at Syracuse University (Syracuse, New York) from August 2008 - May 2009. The fellow will be given library privileges at Syracuse University and office space within the Maxwell School's Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs (http://www.maxwell.syr.edu/moynihan/).

The duties of the fellow will include the following:
• Delivery of one undergraduate or graduate level course in the Spring semester 2009 relevant to the Middle East Studies curriculum (for more information please see http://middle-eastern-studies.syr.edu/Courses.htm)
• Curriculum development and course delivery – in concert with other faculty and Maxwell’s Executive Education office – for the School’s Leaders for Democracy Fellows Program. This course includes an alumni meeting in the Middle East in December, a six-week academic seminar that takes place in Syracuse, and a six-week professional affiliation component that takes place in Washington DC. http://exed.maxwell.syr.edu/exed/sites/ldf/
