Summer 2011 Faculty-led Travel Course

Travel throughout Tunisia as part of a course, The Arab World, Islam, and U.S. Foreign Policy, May 22-June 11, 2011, with Professor Peter J. Schraeder. Learn about the politics and culture of the Arab World. Experience a camel trek in Southern Tunisia. Visit sites of political, religious, and historical significance throughout Tunisia. Attend presentations at the U.S. Embassy and meet the U.S. Ambassador. Take part in joint sessions with English-speaking Tunisian students your own age. Camp overnight in the Sahara Desert.

FACULTY:

Professor Peter J. Schraeder is a specialist in Afri-can politics (including North Africa) and U.S. foreign policy and is also fluent in English and French. This will be the fifth time Dr. Schraeder has led this program in Tunisia. The trip will also include guest lectures from internationally acclaimed Tunisian scholars.

TENTATIVE CALENDAR:

3/21 Application Deadline
5/21 Depart U.S. for Tunisia
5/22 Arrive in Tunisia
6/11 Depart Tunisia for U.S.

PROGRAM FEE OF $2,296 INCLUDES:

Shared occupancy in 4-5 star hotels 3 meals per day All in-country travel expenses (including travel by a new Mercedes bus and 4x4 Land Rovers) English-speaking Tunisian tour guide and local lecturers Entrance fees to all sites, such as Roman and Carthaginian ruins, religious sites (Islamic mosques, Catholic churches, and Jewish tem-ples), and museums On-site program support $100 Loyola Office for International Programs study abroad fee

PROGRAM FEE DOES NOT INCLUDE:

Round-trip airfare (Chicago-Tunis) approxi-mately $1,200 Personal spending money Optional baggage insurance/excess baggage fees Optional travel insurance International health insurance (required to be purchased separately)

TUITION FEE OF $1,890 INCLUDES:

3 credit hours of Loyola summer session tuition (Note: graduate students pay graduate tuition rate)

This course is cross-listed with Black World Studies (BWS), International Studies (INTS), Islamic World Studies (IWS), and Peace Studies (PAX). This pro-gram is an outstanding opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in Middle East Studies, African Studies, International Studies, United States Foreign Policy, History and Politics of the Arab World and Islam, and Classical Studies (Roman and Carthaginian Empires).
