Cyprus
Our next stop on our world tour is Cyprus! Cyprus, also known as the Republic of Cyprus is located in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, south of Turkey. It is the third largest island in the Mediterranean and also commonly considered one of the hottest tourist spots.
In mythology Cyprus is the legendary birthplace of the goddess of beauty and love, Aphrodite, and this comes as no surprise to us. This beautiful country is rich in history from the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, and even earlier. If historical sites are what you are looking for, perhaps you should go look into visiting the ruins of ancient Salamis, near Famagusta (seen to the right) or maybe the Kourion Theater outside the city of Limassol (seen to the left).
The only problem one may face is the strict use of Greek on the island to the south and Turkish to the north. While in either portion of the island, be sure never to praise those of opposite culture. The Greeks do not take kindly to the Turkish, and vice versa. In fact, once the Turks seized control of Northern Cyprus from the Greeks, they constructed a massive flag on the mountain side so that all the people in the south could view it.
If you wish to learn more about this incredible country and other great tourist spots please go to Cyprus Tourism.
