Narrated by Spearhead singer Michael Franti, follow the Bataka movement to amplify the spirit of the next generation in this musical journey. "In this spellbinding lecture, Tim Wise ... offers a unique, inside-out view of race and racism in America. Expertly overcoming the defensiveness that often surrounds these issues, Wise provides a non-confrontational explanation of white privilege and the damage it does not only to people of color, but to white people as well. This is an invaluable classroom resource: an ideal introduction to the social construction of racial identities, and a critical new tool for exploring the often invoked - but seldom explained - concept of white privilege.".

The Gospel according to Philip K. Dick

Dakota 38

In the spring of 2005, Jim Miller, a Native spiritual leader and Vietnam veteran, found himself in a dream riding on horseback across the great plains of South Dakota. Just before he awoke, he arrived at a riverbank in Minnesota and saw 38 of his Dakota ancestors hanged. At the time, Jim knew nothing of the largest mass execution in United States history, ordered by Abraham Lincoln on December 26, 1862. "When you have dreams, you know when they come from the creator... As any recovered alcoholic, I made believe that I didn't get it. I tried to put it out of my mind, yet it's one of those dreams that bothers you night and day." Now, four years later, embracing the message of the dream, Jim and a group of riders retrace the 330-mile route of his dream on horseback from Lower Brule, South Dakota to Mankato, Minnesota to arrive at the hanging site on the anniversary of the execution. "We can't blame the wasichus anymore. We're doing it to ourselves. We're selling drugs. We're killing our own people. That's what this ride is about, is healing." This is the story of their journey- the blizzards they endure, the Native and Non-Native communities that house and feed them along the way, and the dark history they are beginning to wipe away.

An outstanding film about reconciliation and forgiveness. ~Mike

The Chairman and the Lions

"The Maasai leader of a Tanzanian village battles many lions, both real and figurative, that threaten his community - 'bush' lawyers, land grabbers, marauding beasts of prety, migration, and lack of education. Chairman Frank Ikoyo provides a glimpse into the current world of Ilparakuo Maasai and the ever-increasing challenges they face. He advocates education as a key to village self-determination, despite the face that it can produce ' educated criminals.' The film depicts Ikoy's duties as Chairman - persuading women to send their daughters to school, interrogating spies in a lawsuit, and eliciting help from a renowned elder to train young watrriors in the art of lion hunting."
Directed by Peter Biella; produced by Fank Kaipai Ikoyoa, Juma Mriga, Kelly Askew, Howard Stein.

Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention in the 1960s

The most detailed, informative, and enjoyable documentary on Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention yet to emerge. Features rare footage of Frank and the Mothers throughout the 1960s, archive interviews, seldom-seen live performances, and a host of other features. Track listing features: Who Are the Brain Police?, Hungry Freaks Daddy, Trouble Every Day, Brown Shoes Don't Make it, America Drinks and Goes Home, and many more.

"This film is not authorised by the estate or family of Frank Zappa."

Zappa might have appreciated an unauthorized documentary about him. It's hard to say. The documentary provides information about the early years of Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. Zappa's work will probably survive throughout the years as a tipping point in modern music. The DVD provides great stories from band members as well as a look at Frank's path to under/above ground notoriety. ~Mike

Bill Moyers Beyond Hate

Hate has many faces: racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, sectarianism, domestic violence. But do we really understand its roots? Are there practical ways to cope with it? What is hate doing to us? More importantly, what does hate do for us? Bill Moyers seeks to answer these questions. His search takes him around the world where he talks to philosophers and historians, authors and activists to those whose lives have been shaped by hate and those who have dedicated their lives to going beyond it.

Broadcast in 1991 it is still a very important look into the motivational factors leading to hate. The discussion will provide insight and understanding, it is very relevant today. ~Mike
