Prostate Support Group Change
I have been notified that the Prostate Support Group offered throught the UM-CCC has been discontinued. Patrons inquiring about a prostate support group should be directed to the American Cancer Society and The Wellness Community of Southeast Michigan.
Please offer the patient the American Cancer Society Patient Referral Form and explain that you will fax the completed form to the ACS; the ACS will contact the patron directly with the requested information.
You should also offer The Wellness Community Newsletter/Calendar of Events and suggest the patron contact them regarding prostate support group locations.
Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you again for all your terrific help!

Flu Shot Reminder
This entry should be read by both PERC Staff and iPod Squad Volunteers
Just a reminder regarding flu shots --
Volunteers who have flu shots outside of UMHS are asked to take or fax proof to the Occupational Health Office on Level 3 of the Med Inn to have a sticker placed on their ID badge. If you prefer, give me the copy of proof and I will get your sticker for you.
Beginning in December, anyone who interacts with patients will need the sticker on their ID badge or they will be required to wear a mask. Remember, flu shots are available to volunteers at no charge within UMHS. Click on the following link for a schedule of clinic dates, times and locations.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Four issues of Thrive Magazine are out of print and therefore no longer listed on the rack outside of the PERC. These issues are: Fall 2007, Spring 2008, Summer 2009, and Fall 2009.
If a patron requests a copy of an out of print issue, you can print the PDF version by using the following link:

Flu policy 2010
This year the UMHS joins dozens of other health care institutions nationwide in requiring influenza (flu) vaccination or protective mask use during flu season. This requirement applies to all members of the UMHS community who interact face-to-face with our patients in any way.
This means that everyone who volunteers at the health system must receive a flu vaccine by Dec. 1, or will be required to wear a surgical or isolation mask for all face-to-face patient interactions or when entering patient rooms during flu season, which typically lasts several months.
The flu shots are free for volunteers. This website has additional information and a list flu shot clinics.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
