This entry should be read by both PERC staff and Tech Squad voluneers.
We have received a new "build key" (flash drive) for the laptops. The process to rebuild is the same as before:
1. Make sure the computer has been shut-down.
2. Insert the Pink cable into a telecommunications port on the laptop.
3. Insert the new "build key" -- which is now maroon in color -- into a USB port.
4. Press the On button and begin tapping the F12 key until the screen prompts you to select a boot option.
5. Select "Start up from USB drive".
The rebuild process takes approximately 20 minutes. Once the rebuild is complete, I would like to initate a new procedure so that we can provide the laptops to patrons more efficiently. Following the rebuild, please connect the laptop to the WiFi. This can be done as follows:
1. Place the cursor over the Internet icon in the lower right hand corner and click.
2. Select the Guest Network, check the box "reconnect automatically" and click connect.
Once you see the "yellow pyramid" appear and provided the battery is charged (to at least 95%), you may shut down the laptop.
If the laptop is clean, but you do not have enough time to connect to WiFi and/or charge the laptop (to at least 95%), please place the laptop in the "Clean Only" drawer and leave a note on the desk for the next PERC attendant so that they can complete the process.
In instances where you do not have time to clean the laptop, please put it in the bottom left drawer of the Public Computers desk. Also, leave a note on the staff desk letting the next attendant know they need to check this drawer. Please be sure to lock all drawers -- the 2 public computer desk drawers, the iPod drawer, and the lateral file drawer.
If you have any questions reguarding this entry, please let me know. I will be happy to walk through the process with you until you feel comfortable. Although I perform these steps daily, I realize that you may only do them once or twice a shift, or some weeks, not at all!
Again, thank you for all your help. You are truly an asset to the patients and families who visit the Cancer Center!

National Volunteer Week - Thank You for Your Service
This entry should be read by both PERC Staff and Tech Squad Volunteers.
This is National Volunteer Week and I would like to take a moment to thank you for volunteering at the PERC. Whether you are a PERC staff volunteer or a student volunteer on the Tech Squad, please know that your efforts are truly appreciated -- by both the patrons and the Cancer Center staff -- but most especially by me.
Without your service, we could not offer the programs that we do especially our latest offerings, the iPods and laptops. Your willingness to take on new projects and pitch in where and when needed is commendable.
Please know that not only during National Volunteer Week, but every week, your service is appreciated. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into volunteering. Truly, we could not succeed without your help. Thank You.
