New Resources: LibGuides Links
I've added some links to new resources I've been creating. They're called LibGuides, and they're designed to organize and display related patient-friendly resources on a variety of cancer topics. While they were originally intended to replace the Information Guides, they are going to be used to enhance the Information Guides as an additional online resource rather than act as a replacement. The Information Guides are on track to be updated over the summer, so please look for the new guides. I'll post to the blog as the new Information Guides are approved and released.
In the meantime, the LibGuides created so far are excellent resources for reference staff to use when answering questions from patients and families. The links are more direct, they contain more information, audio/visual content and practical assistance resources.
Please look over the LibGuides I've posted so far. One caveat: while all links are to respected and authoratative materials, the LibGuides have not undergone the clinical approval process, and as such should not be handed out to patients yet. These are for our internal use. The LibGuides initiative will continue through this year and next, and hopefully serve as a robust resource for patients and families and staff.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Again, I encourage you to click on the links and familiarize yourself with the resources to best serve our patrons!

Sight & Sound In-Patient Floors
This entry should be read by both PERC Staff and Tech Squad Volunteers.
I would like to clarify which in-patient units the PERC currently services with our Sight & Sound Program: Floor 8B of University Hospital and Floor 7W of the new C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital.
We previously offered the program to patients located on Floor 8A of University Hospital; however, when the new hospital opened in December, those patients (bone marrow transplant) were relocated to 7W of the new hospital.
Floor 8A, University Hospital, is currently being renovated; I do not know if we will offer our program to patients on this floor when it reopens. I will keep you posted.
Finally, please remember that if a patient is transferred off of either 8B or 7W, they must return the laptop.
There has been some confusion regarding 7A and 7B of University Hospital and 7W of the new C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital.
Unfortunately, since we do not currently have the resources to track devices on any floors other than 8B and 7W, patients must be instructed to return the laptops if they are transferred off the floor. If/when they return to 8B or 7W, they may once again checkout a laptop.
I know that it can get confusing with the various hospitals and floors, so if you have any questions regarding which in-patient units we service, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for all your help and commitment to our patients!
