UM Libraries Sponsor Copyright Workshops

A new set of workshops, conducted by university library intellectual property specialists Paul Newman and Molly Kleinman, will address a series of issues important to university content creators, with sessions giving special attention to the concerns of dissertation writers and to the needs of faculty.

These workshops will discuss the following questions:

- What does copyright protect and for how long?
- Who owns the copyright?
- When do you need permission to use other people's works in your writing and teaching?
- What is involved in transferring rights to others?
- How can you protect your interests in dealing with journals and publishers?
- How can you increase the impact of your work by use of Creative Commons licenses or by depositing your work in Deep Blue?

Copyright Essentials for Dissertations will be offered Thursday, 11/8/2007 from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM at the Faculty Exploratory (206 Hatcher Graduate Library).

Copyright Essentials for Faculty will be offered Monday, 10/1/2007 from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM at the Faculty Exploratory (206 Hatcher Graduate Library).

This session will also be offered Monday, 12/3/2007 from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM at the Faculty Exploratory (206 Hatcher Graduate Library).
