Let's talk exercise.
Yesterday I went Mall walking at Westland Mall. I walked 1.7 miles. It was fun looking in the store windows before the stores opened. Today, I did my treadmill. The program Gorge Trail. It is 1 mile long, 20 minutes, at different speeds. I burned 100 calories. Then I did some rowing on our Bowflex. 200 strokes using 60lbs of weight resistance. I am going to get in shape again! I am going to mow the lawn today too. Remember to drink a lot of water. I am getting in shape for myself, no one else.
Get moving. You can do it.

Yesterday I took the dog for a 1 1/2 mile walk at North Bay Park around Ford Lake. Today I did my treadmill for 30 minutes, burned 209 calories and walked 1.6 miles. I hope that all this exercise shows on the scale on Friday!

Okay, Heidi, I'm impressed that you are continuing to log your progress and comments. I know how hard it is as a mother to 'do it all'. It is all very tiring, for sure.

I ended up in the ER a couple of weeks ago. No one was at home with me except my teenage daughter (my husband was in China on business). I woke my daughter, Sarah, up about 1:00 am and told her she had to drive me to the ER. Poor girl, she doesn't even have her license and isn't legally allowed to drive at that time of night.... but I didn't even think about that at the time.

I was admitted to the hospital. What I learned is that I have high BP, high cholesterol, thyroid problem, morbid obesity .... I have all the risk factors for a stroke/cardiovascular problem. I honestly thought I was going to die ... especially considering that I have a very stong family hx of diabetes, obesity, stroke, heart failure, ateriosclerosis and early death. Why do I have these problems?????? Because I am OVERWEIGHT !!! This is the most I have EVER WEIGHED in my entire life. You would be surprised to know that in my 20s I weighed less than 100 pounds; and just 6 years ago I was a certified aerobics instructor and would take back to back aerobics classes and then run the track. WHAT THE HECK HAS HAPPENED TO ME AND WHO THE HECK AM I ????? I honestly don't even recognize myself anymore!!!

I can tell you that when I worked out I was fit, strong, energetic, and so positive. When I don't work out (as I haven't for about 4 years) ... my health has COMPLETELY DETERIORATED ... I get winded with simple tasks such as a flight of stairs; the lack of exercise had affected many aspects of my life. For all these physiological reasons, not just physical appearance, I need to behave and take care of MY body and TAKE CARE OF MYSELF before anyone else.

Today at work I resisted danish in the nursing office and resisted chocolates in the doctor's office. When I got home I put in my aerobics tape and worked out for 1 hour (ignoring my husband yelling at me to help him find the channel changer for the upstairs TV).

I'm satisfied with my progress today.

Deb,
I am sorry to hear about your scary night going to the ER! I know that we must all get our health in line. It is so important to take care of ourselves. When we are in shape I think we are more positive people and most of our health problems can be resoled or eliminated. I have high cholesterol and I am on Zocor 20mg. I have taken the medicine for years. I get my high cholesterol from my mother. My father was morbidly obese and his cholesterol was O.K. Go figure? My father had a stroke when he was 63, then we had to put him in a nursing home, because he was paralyzed, then Alzeheimer's set in. He passed away when he was 68. It was a long struggle from a poor lifestyle that took its toll on his health. I know that I personally feel better when I weight about 145 - 150. That is my goal.
I have been working out each day while I am on vacation. Today I walked on my treadmill 1.6 miles, burned 227 calories. I have to drink my water today. I am bad at that sometimes, O.K. most of the time. But we can do it. Do it for ourselves, then for our children so that we can enjoy a long life watching them grow up. Well that's all for now. I wrote more than I intended too.
Heidi
P.S. Sometimes it takes a health scare to get us back in line.

Hi Everyone,
I hope everyone is doing well today!
I got on the treadmill again for 20 minutes , 114 calories burned. Then I did 50 repetitions of leg curls on the Bowflex with 50 lbs, then 100 rowing motions with 60lbs.
Don't give up. Keep going for it. The results will be worth it.

Well, today is Friday, weigh in day. I have to admit that my weight went up. I am on vacation. I worked out the last five days, could it all be muscle, wishful thinking!!! Hope things are going better for the rest of you.
Heidi
P.S. I quit using my online weight watchers program. I wasn't going onto the site often enough to see paying for the subscription again when it came time to renew it. Does anyone post anymore?????

I recommend that you do not weigh yourself everyday, it gets too tedious and its actually counter productive. Try measuring yourself every 2 weeks and you will see feasable improvements :)
