Posted: March 09, 2009
It's never too early to begin thinking of courses to take in the fall! The Office of Field Instruction is currently accepting applications for students interested in becoming a Peer Facilitator for the Fall 2009 Field Seminar! Applications are due on Monday, 3/23/09 at 5:00pm.
Current peer facilitators will be available to answer your questions and talk about their experiences facilitating in the Commons during lunch breaks on Tuesday, 3/10/09 (11:00-12:00pm), Tuesday, 3/17/09 (11:00-12:00pm) and Wednesday, 3/18/09 (12:00-2:00pm). Feel free to stop by to collect information and pick up an application!
Peer Facilitators are a part of the evolving field seminar model. They will work in conjunction with the Field Liaisons to facilitate discussions and activities for students during their first semester in the field. Becoming a facilitator is a great opportunity to gain professional skills, receive course credit and to help students navigate the field experience. All MSW students who will have successfully completed the Foundation Field Seminar by the end of April are eligible to apply.
The field seminar will take place every Tuesday from 11:30-1:30 pm in the Fall 2009 term. Facilitators will receive 2 independent study credits for their time preparing for and participating in the seminar, attending 4 monthly team meetings on Thursdays or Fridays from 12:00-2:00pm, and helping to evaluate and improve the field seminar model. It is recommended that those applying for the position register for a full load of courses for the Fall, with the knowledge that they may want to drop a course if they are selected to be a Peer Facilitator.
For further details regarding the Peer Facilitator qualifications, responsibilities, and benefits, please see the attached application. Applications may also be picked up at the OFI (1704 SSWB). All applications are due by Monday, March 23 at 5:00 pm. Selected individuals will be contacted to schedule an interview during the week of Monday, 3/30/09 through Friday, 4/3/09. Accepted applicants will be notified by Friday, 4/17/09. There will be a mandatory meeting with the current field seminar team on 4/21/09 from 3:00-5:00pm and a mandatory training on 9/8/09 from 11:30-2:30pm.
