Organization Name: Metropolitan Organizing Strategy Enabling Strength(MOSES)
Location: Metropolitan Detroit
Job Terms: Full-time internship – flexible hours including nights and weekends.
Position Availability: April 1, 2009 to September 30, 2009. This intern position can lead to a full-time organizing position.
Organization Description: Metropolitan Organizing Strategy Enabling Strength (MOSES). MOSES is an interfaith, multiracial, congregation-centered community organization that addresses issues through a process of relationship building, training and leadership development and direct action. MOSES congregations cooperate as core teams, action clusters, a metropolitan organization, and in affiliation with other congregation-centered community organizations within the Gamaliel Foundation. MOSES’ goal is to strengthen member congregations and institutions to build powerful coalitions that address local community issues and bring about social and systemic change.
COMPENSATION: $2000 monthly
·Assist in the development of coalition building and community outreach.
·Outreach to individuals in congregations and other neighborhood/community groups through an intentional relationship building process.
·Organize teams of individuals to participate together and lead various forms of local and regional activism.
·Organizing efforts include 15-20 weekly one-to-one 30 minute meetings, core leaders/team meetings in congregations as scheduled and local actions.
·Organize two congregation/community actions of 30 people and one large action of 100 people
·Identify key leaders to participate in national training programs.
·Write weekly reports on activities.
·Must have at least 3 years of college.
·A strong commitment to working for social justice and social change
·Must be self-motivated and able to work independently and be available for occasional evenings or weekend events
·Must have a vehicle and valid driver’s License and willingness to travel throughout southeast Michigan.
·Must be willing to mobilize people into action
·Detail-oriented, outgoing personality, strong oral and written communication skills
·Computer skills: Microsoft Office and able to navigate the internet
·Opportunity to network with high profile individuals
