TITLE: Manager of Student Services
LOCATION: San Francisco Bay Area, CA

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW: Year Up's mission is to close the Opportunity Divide in our country by providing urban young adults with the skills, experience and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Admissions
o Interview prospective students
o Advise Admissions team throughout the recruitment process to identify prospects who will be successful students in the Year Up program

Direct Services
o Connect students to appropriate available resources and help them apply for assistance programs
o Develop and maintain a “service plan” and records for those students who need “case management” services
o Provide one-on-one counseling and support as needed and appropriate for students & apprentices
o Provide support to staff regarding social work issues based on student needs identified through the admissions process or in the course of their involvement in the Year Up program
o Meet weekly with students who have failed drug test
o Build relationships with students both through individual meetings/sessions and being visible during lunch, breaks, and in the classroom, when appropriate
o Attend weekly meetings with staff advisors and site leader to discuss the progress of students, and to develop interventions and direction, as appropriate

Program Development
o Build new relationships with community partners around mental health, drug addiction, and substance abuse and visit resource sites when appropriate
o Work with Director of Program Growth and Quality to develop an integrated curriculum that is directly applicable to the students’ lives. (i.e., anger management, relationships, sexuality, life transitions and pressures, etc.)
o Enter Social Work data into Salesforce and examine social work trends and issues in the community/world that may be affecting our students
o Add to and update the Year Up Resource Guide for students
o Create and maintain a Social Work Resource bulletin board in each Learning Community
o Participate in monthly cross-site discussions with other Year Up sites
o Coordinate & participate CPR and AED training and recertify as needed

Student Facilitation and Advising
o Develop successful and trusting relationships with the students and create and sustain an
environment at Year Up that supports these relationships
o Facilitate learning sessions and serve as an advisor to Year Up students
o Attend weekly Learning Community meeting

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Passion for the mission of Year Up and commitment to the potential of urban young adults
• Strong work ethic and positive attitude, with a willingness to be flexible and do whatever it takes to get the job done
• Master of Social Work degree from an accredited program. LCSW is preferred.
• Have at least two years of professional experience in order to be eligible to provide supervision to social work graduate students (serve as field advisor)
• Experience with young, ethnically diverse urban populations
• Evidence of cultural sensitivity in past employment and life experiences
• Knowledge of the breath of services and resources in the greater Bay Area.
• A professional and resourceful style with the ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit, start-up team
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook and Excel required
