Funding opportunities for SW/Psychology students

Posted: May 04, 2010

The American Psychological Foundation (APF) and the Council of Graduate Departments of Psychology (COGDOP) are jointly offering several graduate research scholarships. These scholarships are open to students of all levels (candidates and pre-candidates) who need money for research. See our website for more information.

You can access the application form from this website; copies will also be available in the SAA Office.

You don’t need to be nominated by your Area in order to apply for these scholarships; the Graduate Committee will review all applications and can forward three to the APF for further consideration. The deadline for submitting your hardcopy materials to the SAA Office is May 20, 2010.

An opportunity to apply for a travel award is offered by the Assembly of Scientist/Practitioner Psychologists (ASPP). ASPP is providing an expense paid trip to the February 2011 Council meeting in Washington DC for a doctoral student in psychology to become familiar with the governance structure of the APA Council and the caucuses and how they work. At the COR meeting the student who receives the award will be mentored by the Chair of the ASPP.

The ASPP Board will review all submissions, select a student, and announce the recipient during the August 2010 ASPP Board meeting.

Interested students may send (a) their CV, (b) 100-word statement explaining their reason for applying for the award, and (c) a letter of endorsement from their advisor talking about their plans as a Scientist-Practitioner to the Chair of the ASPP, Dr. Valerie Holms at drholms@mts.net. Deadline for submission is July 15, 2010.
