Job Opening: Program Manager at La Vida

Position Available: Program Manager at La Vida, Southwest Detroit Partnership to Prevent Intimate Violence Against Latina Women

LA VIDA -- the Southwest Detroit Partnership to Prevent Intimate Violence Against Latina Women -- seeks to ensure the availability, accessibility, and utilization of a range of culturally competent intimate partner/domestic violence (DV) interventions targeting Latino families in southwest Detroit. The specific goals of LA VIDA are to:

1) Promote collaboration and coordination among diverse partners committed to preventing DV in Latino families;
2) Expand the knowledge base and disseminate information about DV in Latino families; and
3) Develop, implement, and evaluate DV interventions (including training, education, counseling support, screening, and referral) aimed at reducing DV in Latino families.

The LA VIDA Partnership is now hiring a full-time Program Manager to oversee the daily activities of the LA VIDA Program. The successful candidate will be hired for a one-year term initially, with contract renewal contingent on requisite funds being available. Salary range $35-40,000 per year plus benefits.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Program Manager, based at CHASS Center in Southwest Detroit, will oversee daily activities of the LA VIDA Program, staff the LA VIDA Steering Committee and Community Education Subcommittee, and provide assistance as needed to the Program Director. The Program Manager will supervise and coordinate activities with three additional full-time LA VIDA personnel (Training Coordinator, Family Support Coordinator, and Children/Youth Coordinator). S/he will coordinate data collection and the preparation of program reports, and ensure effective communication among all parties.

DUTIES:

Under the supervision of the Program Director, provide daily management of activities related to the LA VIDA Partnership, including but not limited to:
• Coordinate all components of the Program
• Prepare materials, minutes, and follow-up for all LA VIDA Partnership and Steering Committee-related activities
• Oversee and coordinate the work of the LA VIDA Training Coordinator, Family Support Coordinator, and Children/Youth Coordinator
• Establish, maintain, and convene meetings of the Community Education Subcommittee
• Coordinate data collection and report preparation by the LA VIDA Steering Committee and four Subcommittees
• Ensure and maintain ongoing and effective communication between and among the LA VIDA Partnership, Steering Committee, and four Subcommittees
• Ensure adherence to timetables, workplans, and grant requirements
• Responsible for all publicity and communication regarding the LA VIDA Program
• Participate/assist as needed in any activities related to the LA VIDA Program
• Available for evening and weekend activities as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 3-5 years experience in the coordination and management of social service or public health-oriented intervention/prevention programs and/or demonstration projects
• Bachelor’s degree minimum, Master’s degree preferred, in human services or public health
• Bilingual language ability (English and Spanish) required
• Experience working with multicultural communities (including Latino communities) a must
• Expertise in community organizing and group facilitation
• Experience working with representatives from community-based organizations, practice and academic settings; ability to act as a liaison between groups
• Experience in the area of Domestic Violence
• Familiarity with basic evaluation/research principles, including qualitative and quantitative research methods of data collection and analysis
• Reasonable experience with public speaking
• Very well-organized, with excellent written and oral communication skills
• Experience working in southwest Detroit or Detroit area in general a plus, but not required
• Must have a valid Michigan drivers license and access to an insured automobile
