SSW Winter Commencement

SSW Winter 2011 Commencement will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Hill Auditorium. A light reception will immediately follow at the Michigan League in the 2nd floor Ballroom.

Washington D.C. Job Networking Trip

The SSW Career Center is planning our 3rd annual Washington D.C. Job Networking Trip for February 29 – March 3, 2012. This trip will give current students the opportunity to meet and network with UM-SSW alumni pursuing social work careers in the Washington D.C. area, as well as:

 Attend an evening alumni reception
 Shadow an alum for a day at their job: past agency participants have been Department of Health and Human Services, NASW Headquarters, National Institute of Health, U.S. Administration on Aging, etc.
 Attend a personalized alumni panel discussion
 Enjoy unstructured time to network with alumni and tour Washington D.C.

Please check your email for a copy of the application, or stop by the Career Center. Applications are due to the Career Center or by email to ssw-cso@umich.edu no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 12th. We will notify the students who’ve been selected to attend the trip by Thursday, December 22nd.

If you're interested in learning more about the trip, come to our information session to get more details. The info session will be held in the Career Center (Room 1696 in the SSW) on Wednesday, December 7th from 12-1pm.

Registration Appointment Times Winter term 2012

Registration appointment times for MSW students will be issued prior to registration on 11/21. Backpacking begins today and you can backpack without a registration appointment. Here is some information from the SSW Registration page that will help you to know what registration appointment to expect.

REGISTRATION SCHEDULE WINTER TERM
NOVEMBER 21:
April/May Grads 8:00 a.m.
August Grads/Advanced Standing 8:45 a.m.
Dual Degree 9:30 a.m.
December Grads/16 month 12:00 p.m.
All Others 4:00 p.m.

Grad Attire - December SSW Commencement

Attn: December 2011 MSW Degree Candidates

Planning to attend December 17th SSW Commencement? Need attire?

The Office of Student Services has a limited number of caps, gowns and hoods that have been donated by previous graduates for students to borrow. Beginning Monday, December 5th, graduates may stop by the Office of Student Services, Room 1748 SSWB, to borrow attire on a first-come first-served basis. NOTE: Students will need to purchase their own tassel, as we do not have these available to borrow.

This note announces an award available to new and continuing students in the Joint Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program. It is being made available under the School of Social Work Joint Doctoral Program Grant fund and carries a value of $6,000. To be eligible for the award, a student must be in good standing and show distinguished achievements in the Joint Doctoral Program.

It is being made available under the Rosemary Sarri Scholarship fund in Management, Social Policy or Community Organization and carries a value of $3,000. One award will be made. To be eligible for the award, a student must be in good standing and his or her research must focus on the advancement of community organizing, management, evaluation or social policy.
