Some recently received books on sports
It is a good time to be a sports fan in Michigan, as the Pistons and Red Wings both made the playoffs and the Tigers look to be much improved. Soon, the WNBA Shock will also start what promises to be a successful season. And so, here are some sports books that have recently been added to the Thompson Library collection...

Fields (call number GV 709.18 .U6 F54 2005)...this book details the legal battles of young female athletes for the right to participate in "contact sport" which includes such games as football, basketball, and wrestling but also some that do not actually have as much contact such as baseball.
Sports-the First Five Millennia by Allen Guttmann (GV 571 .G88 2004)...as the title implies, this is a very ambitious work, covering the history of sports from ancient times to the present.
