Making New Contacts: Learning to Network Strategically

Many people have negative impressions of networking, but by being strategic about meeting people, networking can become easier. Brianna Blaser, PhD from Science Careers will discuss the myths and realities surrounding networking and different strategies for networking including: informational interviewing, attending conferences, participation in professional societies, and social networking websites. We'll also discuss some of the nuts and bolts of networking including: proper etiquette, business cards, elevator pitches, and following up with contacts.

New Postdoc Orientation

Orientation for newly-appointed Postdoctoral Fellows is held on the first Wednesday of each month.

At the orientation, the Office of Human Resources will present basic information relevant to all faculty and staff at the Medical School, and the Office of Postdoctoral Studies and the UM-Postdoctoral Association will present information specific to Postdoctoral Fellows.

If you are no longer a 'new' postdoc, but want to learn more about the resources available to you at the UMMS, please feel free to attend.
The Molecular & Behavioral Neuroscience Institute is located at 205 Zina Pitcher, across the street from Taubman Medical Library.

The orientation session will include the Postgraduate Studies program led by Dr. Peter Hitchcock which is focused on careers paths and informational data on "how to navigate around Ann Arbor" followed by a brief Benefit Orientation presented by Human Resources.

Prior to the orientation, please make sure to complete the required HIPPA mandatory training.
