mission statement and goals

Founded on the values of mutual understanding and diversity, we, the Adopted Koreans Association (AKA) strive to establish solidarity among local adopted Koreans and educate them about the culture and history of Korea and Korean adoption, to encourage a greater public awareness of adoption and adoption issues, and to become a prominent figure in the wider adopted Korean diaspora. We will achieve these goals by providing a forum for adopted Koreans to discuss and learn about the adopted experience, maintaining a resource of media and educational resources, and organizing events for the public.

Our goals are as follows:

  • Education

    • Among adopted Koreans, we will act as a resource of learning about
    • Korean culture and language

    • adoption and its history

    • the wider adopted Korean diaspora

      To the public, we will
    • foster understanding of adopted people

    • represent a first-person perspective of the adopted experience

  • Solidarity

    • On campus, we will provide
    • a forum for adopted Koreans to discuss and explore the adopted experience

    • opportunities for adopted Koreans to socialize

    • an outlet for adopted Korean culture

Within the wider diaspora, we will
    • organize and participate in local events centered on adoption

    • stay informed of out-of-state and overseas events related to adoption
