General Meeting Notes (10/02)
Thank you to everyone who came to tonight's ALA general meeting in the Ehrlicher Room! We realize that a lot of people weren't able to come because of work conflicts/class conflicts/generally busy lives, so here's an overview of things we discussed.

Upcoming Events
Our Fall Calendar has been posted on our website. We have two events in the next two weeks.- Tuesday, October 9, 4:00-6:00 pm - Cataloging the Librarian
- Wednesday, October 17, 7:00-8:00 pm - Storytelling Workshop with Laura Raynor
ALA National
One question we're always asked is, "Why should I join ALA National?" The short answer: It's an organization with lots of resources that supports your professional development and advocates for LIS concerns. Student memberships are cheap, and the New Members Round Table offers mentoring, resume reviews, and more.Get Involved
Interesting in helping out? Here are just a few ways you can do just that.- Help create content for our web site. Do you know of great resources on LIS topics--the best listservs, the best job sites, the best library blogs? Tell us. Or become one of our bloggers!
- Add content to our delicious account. Add "alasi" to your network and tag links "for:alasi".
- Help build the LIS community at SI. Second years who are willing to provide informal mentoring should introduce themselves at this members post. First years can visit the post to find people who can answer their questions about the program and more.
- Participate in our advocacy efforts for LIS within SI. Keep up to to date with the LIS faculty search, and attend candidate talks in the winter. Or help us gather info on what LIS students want from the administration. Is there a class you wish SI offered? We can make a case for it with your help.
