Home for the Holidays
As finals come to a close, I know I am looking forward to a trip home and the relaxation and quality family time that comes with Winter Break. But along with this free time comes those inevitable “future questions, which are often far from relaxing: “Have you picked a major yet? or “What are you going to do with a degree in that? or “So what are you doing after you graduate?
Some of you may already have a clear answer to these questions, so you can continue drinking eggnog or watching that holiday movie without qualms. Others may not be so sure, and if those “future questions from Aunt Sally and Uncle Bob are making you anxious, don’t feel like you’re alone. It’s okay and we’re here to help.
Over break with your time off, think about taking a few days to do some exploration. Check out our website for sections such as “Majors and Careers, “Finding an Internship, and “Finding a Job (www.careercenter.umich.edu). Think about revising (or writing for the first time) your resume. Browse some job/internship postings on Career Center Connector (posting site in the Quick Links section of our main page.) Think about talking to relatives or family friends about job shadowing or informational interviewing.
And we’ll be here when you get back (re-opening for advising January 5th… see website for hours) to talk about what you found/did over Break. So enjoy the re-runs of “It’s A Wonderful Life or “A Christmas Story and don’t shy away from Aunt Sally at the holiday party. You’ve got this under control.
