Vickie's May 1st Update!
Hi everyone!
I'm finally done with exams!!! Here's my 1st summer update!
1. Big 10 Conference - please check out our correspondence with the Indiana DEX president. IT'S ON THE WEEKEND OF THE OHIO STATE FOOTBALL GAME! This is a major problem. I personally won't be attending (OHIO STATE GAME MY SENIOR YEAR??). What do you think?
2. Advisor - Lynne Sebille-White from the Career Center has been having discussions with both Gwyneth and Kay. We'll hopefully hear a decision soon!
3. Immersion Excursion w/Career Center - Lynne invited me to go to the LSA Advising Conference on May 13 to discuss my experience at the Immersion Excursion last fall where I visited Starcom MediaVest Group and Draftfcb. Geni and Lynne at the Career Center are still seriously considering our idea to collaborate on an Immersion Excursion next fall. We'll have an intern panel before or after featuring Jenna (Draftfcb) and me (Starcom MediaVest Group). Do you think our members will go during Fall Study Break? Will you go? I think it'll be A LOT of fun and we can cut costs down by sharing hotel rooms. We can coordinate a group dinner too!
4. Rooms - Check out the email I sent today with our updated rooms. A lot of them are "banquet rounds" style, which I hope will increase interaction.
5. Festifall - Kathleen registered us for Festifall. We're all set!
6. Old Officer Information - Did you get all the information you need from the old officers? Is there anything else you need?
7. Your updates - If you think you're going to forget or if you are going on vacation, you can add your entry BEFORE the 1st & 15th. So, what have you been working on?

Big Ten Tournament
For those of you who don't know, we have been asked to participate in a DEX Big Ten Tournament that is being planed primarily by Adam Metzendorf a BBA student at Kelley School of Business at Indiana. He sent the following information regarding the event. He would like to know if UM DEX is interested in participating.
When: Friday, November 20- Sunday November 22, 2009: At the ICDC, we discussed a date that didn't interfere with anyone's schedules; we also made sure the dates did not conflict with the CLA or Midterms. It is the weekend before Thanksgiving break so teachers are usually light on the workload.
Chapters Currently Committed:
1. Indiana University (Kelley School of Business
2. Michigan State University
3. University of Minnesota
4. University of Wisconsin
5. Valparaiso University (included in an effort to strengthen the state of Indiana and because of their outstanding showings in both the Michigan state competition and ICDC).
Where: Indianapolis Marriot Downtown (Indianapolis Chosen instead of Bloomington to make things easier for out-of-state participants; also high school DECA is held there) Inianapolis is a four-hour drive from Ann Arbor.
More Details:
Friday: Opening Ceremony
*Schools enter Indiana Ballroom to their fight song
*Rules are explained
*Event details and schedules are given
Saturday:
Morning/Afternoon
*Competition (Event categories included are TBD based on demand)
*Leadership/Networking Workshop
*Big Ten Presidents Meeting (Talk about how we can get other chapters started and how we can strengthen the conference as a whole)
Evening
*Social/Dance
Sunday:
*Event winners are revealed
*Big Ten Tournament Champion is crowned
Point System:
For each event:
*10pts= 1st place
*7pts= 2nd place
*5pts= 3rd place
School with the most total points is the winner. (Note point system can and probably will change)
We are waiting for information on the cost to participate in the event. I will let you know the number as soon as we hear back from Adam.
I think that this would be a great opportunity for our chapter to network with other schools and get closer with our members.
If we can commit to doing heavy fund raising as a chapter to minimize costs for the event, then I think we should participate. This way, we will still be able to bring a large group to the State Career Development Conference.
What do you guys think? Please leave comments so I can get a feel for how many members would be interested in attending.

DEX Mblog- Welcome!
Hey 09-10 Eboard!
I think that having a blog site for our summer planning will be much more organized than a Google doc. I'm not a fan of that service's funding, and with 9-10 of us sending information twice a month, it will be hard to organize.
Everyone will be able to read people's entries and add their own.
Best of luck with exams, and see you in the fall!
~Jenna
