DEX banner

I met with Ryan yesterday and he gave me a bag of a bunch of old DEX stuff. We couldn't, however, find the DEX banner that has been missing all year. If anyone has any idea where it may be, please let me know! I've already sent out emails to Dan and Marina.
Hope you're having a great summer!!

State Ambassador Update: Meeting with VP, Michigan International Speedway Fundraiser

I met with Julia, our state VP, on Sunday. We had three items on our agenda:

1. Fall Leadership Conference
2. Fundraisng
3. Membership development

We brainstormed some creative ideas for each. I am typing up our ideas in an email to send to Tanya. I will be emailing it to Kay for review and suggestions before I email it Tanya.

Once I find out from the "powers that be" how our suggestions will pan out, I will post the specifics.

If you guys have any suggestions at the state level, please email me. We would love to hear from you.

It looks like Tanya et. al. would like to give the Michigan International Speedway fundraiser another go. Here is her email to me :

We are looking to work Michigan International Speedway in June and August. We are hoping as an office you are able to clear your calendar for these day to assist in this state fundraiser.

June 12 - 14

And

August 14 - 16

If, you can please confirm your attendance that would be greatly appreciated.

Tanya Blehm
MMMA/DEX Conference Director
Ascension Lutheran Church Church Life Board
Office Professional for Scott Blehm

I will be attending as well as Julia. If any of you are in town and able to attend, I would really appreciate your help. We can carpool. Email me if you are able to help.

Secretary May 15th Update

Sorry for not updating sooner but I'm frantically trying to get ready to leave for Paris on Monday for my summer internship. In true U of M fashion I have waited until the last minute to brush up on my French, which I kind of need to know well, considering my first legit job interview (in any language) will be on Tuesday. Epic fail.

Back to DEX news...

All of our rooms are reserved and all are confirmed except the two Mason rooms, which I'm still awaiting confirmation for. I also have been looking into RSVP systems a little. Yesterday and this morning I have spent over 2 hours trying to figure out Google Calendars and it's driving me crazy so if anyone knows how to invite people who don't have a Google account and let them RSVP as well PLEASEEEE let me know. Other than that I was thinking of a simple survey monkey link I could send out with each event e-mail and tell them to RSVP Yes, No, or Maybe(?) on the site, and this would just provide a rough estimate of how many people we can expect. If we wanted we could also add a question that just says "Name" and tell those who RSVP "Yes" to submit their name as well. The advantage of Google or another type would be the entire calendar would be visible with event details, which would look more professional.

Vickie/Jenna, do we need names or just a count? And what do you guys like? I'd definitely be open to other suggestions if you know of any other websites I could look into! Hope everyone's summer is off to a great start =]

Shane's Quick Update

Hey yall, hope you are all having a great kick off for the summer. I am up north in Traverse City all summer living at my cottage and working at my uncle's restaurant. I'll be spending my free time down at the lake, jet skiing, and partying (life is so stressful, haha). Now down to the serious notes.

-I haven't come up with any fundraising ideas, but no worries, this old brain of mine will come up with something.

-I just received the emial from Jenna about the Target grant so i will get on that soon.

-I haven't created a budget yet, I left all my info downstate but will be back home Tuesday.

Thats all for now, sorry for being not as active as expected but being out of school just feels so darn good. Bye!

VP Exec Update

Its already May 15th? (well, almost) Crazy.

I got back from the Carson Scholars Program in Washington DC on Sunday, packed up my things and made the drive from Ann Arbor to Naperville, IL. I'll be home for this month working at the golf course, then I'll make the move downtown Chicago for my internship starting in June.

Update!
- Vickie, I went on SOAS and nominated Alex, Kathleen, Nate, Nilesh, and Tom as authorized signers. Now they just have to confirm it.

- Hopefully we hear soon about our potential new adviser as we don't have any more leads as of yet.

- I agree with the idea for the luncheons. As far as my availability, I know that my fall is going to be nutz. Friday would probably be my best lunch day with more than an hour window available, but we can look into that as we get close to the semester.

- I am sending Shane an email with stuff on the Target grant after I write this. He should also get in touch with Ella, as she's my go-to person for everything with Target.

- Good that we are signed up for Festifall. Question: Do we think it is worth it to be a bschool club? or not? I know people in SGA that I can talk to if we want to make that work out but it depends on what the rest of the eboard thinks about it.

-BBA Marketing club was also interested in doing a visit to Chicago based companies, as several people of our Eboard are working there this summer. Would we be interested in teaming up with them for this event? I am pushing for a time other than fall break, as many people have other trips planned, and it is the first real chance for Freshmen to go home, and we wouldn't want to take that away from them.

That's all i've got for now. I'm open to comments!

Vickie's May 15 Update!

Wow, I can't believe it's mid-May already. I went to LeaderShape camp last week (it was awesome & free- you should all go) and I'm heading to North Carolina on Sunday to move my sister into her apartment (she's interning for GE this summer).

Now DEX stuff:
1. Immersion Excursion w/Career Center - I spoke at the LSA Advising Conference about the Marketing & Advertising Immersion Excursion I went on. [trip to Chicago to visit Starcom MediaVest Group and Draftfcb hosted by the Career Center] Geni and Lynne from the Career Center are eager to co-host an event with us. This will happen potentially during fall break (October 2009) and will feature a panel of Jenna and I (and any other interns for those companies) before or after the event. Keep this in mind!

2. New Co-Advisor - Lynne also mentioned that she still has to get in touch with Kay.

3. Authorized Signers - I added the rest of you as authorized signers. After Jenna seconds my request, you will get an email with a confirmation link.

4. Intern Networking Lunches - I really want to pursue this this year. It will feature 1 upperclassman who has had a cool internship. 1-4 students will join him/her for lunch and learn more about the internship. We can provide some useful questions to ask. This is just a less intimidating and more personal way to learn about internships (students can ask: "How much did you get paid?" "What was your boss like?" --- questions people wouldn't feel comfortable asking a recruiter). Useful recruiter contact information can also be provided.
Who wants to be one of the featured interns? (Reply) We can have as many as possible but I want to spread them throughout the year. I will be one. I believe Marissa, Mike, Jaryd, and Lusa can also help if needed. Are you interested?

Here are some ideas to guide your updates! Check comments to your previous entries for people's feedback.
Alex & Nilesh: Have you contacted Google, sports panel, etc? What can we help you with?
Kathleen & Nate: Point system? Is the survey going to happen? When is CircleK Service Day? Or are we doing DP Day? Or Relay for Life? More thoughts on social event?
Tom: Any updates on Big 10 Conference? Did you get in touch with State VP?
Jenna: Go to SOAS website and approve everyone else as a signer!
Shane: Fundraiser ideas? Target grant? Did you create a budget yet?
Lauren: I don't have directed questions for you right now, but please provide feedback as often as possible on people's ideas! Help out whenever you can!

Important DEX Info for 2009-2010

DEX has officially been re-registered as an organization under MSA. Thanks everyone for your quick responses!

Authorized Signers
During registration, I had to select at least 3 and no more than 4 authorized signers. They are: Vickie, Jenna, Lauren (to book rooms), Shane (for finances).
If you believe you should be an authorized signer instead of someone here, please let me know. This is just for ease and what make the most sense logistically, so please don't be afraid to speak up.

We haven't used it in the past (except for the Leo Burnett event), but it could be helpful for mass meetings. DEX also has its own configurable calendar, where anybody can view your organization's events (or any other events that you want to appear on your calendar).

Re-registering DEX!!

Every year, organizations on campus must re-register as an organization under MSA. In doing so, DEX will be recognized as a club at the university, we will be able to apply for funding, we can have a financial account at SOAS, etc. We need a couple things to submit our application. I will submit the DEX constitution and fill out our listing on Maize Pages.

What I need from you is your:
Uniqname, UM-ID number, and phone number

Please respond ASAP either by email or by posting on the blog under my entry.

Thanks for your help, keep checking the blog, and I hope you're having a great summer so far!

~Vickie

Exec VP Update from DC

Hi Friends!

I'm currently in Washington DC for the week with the bschool Carson Scholars program. I was in class from 7:45a-6:15pm, and just got back from dinner and a tour of the monuments.

As far as VP news, i'm glad everything seems to be working out great with the blog updates. I haven't gotten a chance to get a head start on anything but it seems that there's some wheels turning with our various positions.

Now back to exploring the city...

LSA Advising Conference - May 13

Quick update:
I'll be speaking on a panel at the LSA Advising Conference on May 13. This was organized by the Career Center's Lynne Sebille-White and Geni Harclerode.
I'll be talking about the value of attending the Immersion Excursion (Chicago to visit Draftfcb and Starcom MediaVest Group). Lynne also suggested I mention the idea of co-sponsoring a future immersion with DEX.
I'll let you know how it goes!

Secretary Update -- May 1

I don't have anything new since Vickie was nice enough to post the room reservations for next year! In addition I'm sending in the requests for Mason for 2/3 and 3/10 now so I'll have the exact room numbers for the next update. I'm also brainstorming ideas for an RSVP system, so I'll have more concrete ideas for next time as well. Feel free to comment if you have any ideas though, I'd love to hear them. Hope exams went well for everyone! =]

MD May 1st Update

Thanks to Lauren, we have a DEX attendance list from this year as well the few DEX alumni. Luckily, these individuals have great jobs so it should be a good sell when we are recruiting new members (ie. PriceWaterHouse Coopers, Goldman Sachs, Ernst & Young).

Kathleen reserved a space for Festifall extremely early so we should have a prime spot.

In the process of creating a survey to gauge how members got involved with DEX.

Until next time.
