Oh the Possibilities!
For you to consider as we enter a conversation about the impact of technology on the theme of Composing, please examine the following emerging forms of expression derived from hybrids of artististic expression, technological and other scientific research:

To start, offer definitions of compose and composition that try to correspond to your sense of US social, economic, academic, political, and tech culture.

These websites seem to change the meaning of the words "compose" and "composition." The composer does not have complete control over the final composition. In fact, sometimes the composer is completely surprised by the product. I experienced this sense of surprise while using Banana Slug. I searched for my name and allowed the site to attach a mystery word. The mystery word turned out to be God. I was shocked at the first search result: "Phillips (my last name which I did not type in) Leslie God is Watching you Lyrics." The product of my initial "composition" actually scared me a bit.
This notion of not having complete control over one's composition is important. Is it desirable to relinquish the ability to compose what we want? Is a surprise product beneficial or detrimental to the composer and the audience? Should we allow technology to control pieces of our "compositions"? These questions will have to be answered as technology increases its influence in our world.
