How Things Spiral
For my inspiration artist assignment I chose Norman McLaren. I do enjoy his work. It is inventive and humorous, and features amazing varied techniques. I chose him because of the technique, and then… I had nagging doubts. Right after that we received the collage assignment, and as a result of doing that I came to think that McLarens work was great eye candy, but lacked depth (sometimes). I can't remember what synapses clicked to make that happen. I did the presentation anyway, thinking it was better to do so than to switch horses midstream,but....
So I decided to back up and rethink. Way back in the way back I read this story, "A Small Good Thing", and around the same time I must have seen Carolyn Leaf's "The Street", which is based on a short story, and which incorporates serious themes, and I thought, well, I guess it can be done. So I have to name her as an influence on my project.
