Episode #39 - Bike Ride
This episode starts off with a few walking segments / soundseeing with me discussing my father's recent trip to the hospital. The third segment, however, is a long audio recording of Michael and I taking his first big bike trip. We ended up going five miles that day, which is amazing since he really only got the hang of riding the week before. Yes, it gets dry in spots, and probably runs too long, but I liked a lot of the little bits mixed in between, so I decided to leave it. I hope you don't mind almost 50 minutes from me this time.

Omens
In an effort to further reduce expenses, I've been looking into other ways of getting to work. This would mean either taking the city bus, or getting a less expensive parking pass. (Parking is extremely limited in the Ann Arbor area, and the University offers three levels of paid parking. The most expensive level - which I have - is the most centrally located to my offices.)
I was checking out the location of one of the cheaper parking lots today on the way home from work. I hopped out of the car to check the map that was hanging in the bus stop, when I noticed a crow sitting high up in a tree. It was watching me, and cawing insistently. After I stopped and acknowledged it's presence, it changed from single long caws to repeating three short caws while looking directly at me.
This comes after seeing two crows this morning in the yard next to us as I was waiting with the kids at their bus stop.
I have taken the appearance of crows in my vicinity to be an omen. (Not a *bad* omen, mind you, since there's no such thing. Webster defines an omen as "an occurrence or phenomenon believed to portend a future event".) I think this started early in college after reading "The Tracker" in an English class and getting even more in tune with the country boy that I was (and still am). It's usually worked out in my favor to follow the omen I thought the crows were pointing out.
I guess this means I'm going to have to look further into this idea. The parking's not TOO much farther away - a few extra minutes walking, or a short bike ride if I bring my bike to work with the car. I might even take a stab at finagling the bus, since it's free for any one carrying a UMich ID. The bus requires fiddlign with schedules a bit, but it might work.
Darned crows, anyway...

Episode #38 - Playtime
Here we go again, kids. Episode #38, a short two-parter. Me walking and talking around work, and then me in the driveway getting bikes ready for the first bike ride of the year, with some incidental soundseeing while I'm at it. It's only about 16 minutes, so I hope that's okay for being a week late. If it isn't, you can't get your money back :p
