Episode #42 - Camping fun!
I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I actually had this done and uploaded late Tuesday night, but I kept forgetting to get the feed and site updated!
This episode is a recap of the three day, two night field trip that Michael took and I chaperoned. I talk about some of the highlights and lowlights, and also make reference to links for photos and videos I posted. The links are as follows:
http://web.mac.com/holdthis/iWeb/Site/Howell.html - pictures (on a very pretty page)
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~zaren/howell_videos/ - videos (in a bare web directory)
I apologize for the general audio quality of my speaking, but I was experimenting with a new recording option, and got too far in before I wondered how it sounded. I figured I could "fix it in post", as Merlin Mann would say. It's a personal opinion as to whether I fixed it, I guess.

Bike riding music
Katey's having a birthday party today, and there were a few last-minutes items needed from the store. Since gas is now up to $3.89 / gallon(!!!) here, I decided to hop on my bike and pedal the 2-and-change miles to the store instead of drive. I hopped on the bike, plugged in the iPod earbuds, and off I went.
I had it set to shuffle, so songs were coming out at random. I was riding long enough for three songs to play before I got to the store, and the sequence was quite amusing.
The first song was Never Alone, a gospel song from the Fame soundtrack. I'm a sucker for any song with acoustic piano, and also for a song with good vocal harmonies, so I love this song since it has both. It started playing right as I rode off of the sidewalks and onto the road's bike lanes - a bit of a subtle hint, perhaps.
The second song was Driven To Tears from The Police. This one started as I was approaching the top of the first hill, and I realized my gear shift was messed up, so I couldn't shift into a better uphill gear. Hard work getting up that hill. The uptempo ska-style groove at the end of the song helped me out, though.
The third song was Things Can Only Get Better, from Howard Jones. Nice and uplifting, and a really good 80s flashback song. This song kicked in as I reached the end of my main road, and the store was in sight.
It was one of those cases where the randomness of the songs fit the situation perfectly, and I wanted to make a note of it.
(The entire ride back, in case you're interested, was Máru-Bihág, a raga from Ravi Shankar.)

Episode #41 - New Parking
This week, it's a little something different. It's a walk-and-walk, but it's a lot longer walking. I'm checking out cheaper parking on campus, and this spot is about aten minute walk from my office. I think I could live with it, at least for the summer.

Episode #40 - Out and About
Not the most content rich episode this time around, just some new sound scenes, with a bit of an update in between.Still, the audio quality was pretty good - check out the birds at the start of the recording :)
