Primal Pictures online anatomy
Taubman Health Sciences Library has received a 30-day trial to Primal Pictures on Ovid. This multimedia approach to anatomical instruction features:
- 9 modules specialized by body regions
- a 24-module systemic edition featuring the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, nervous, and organ systems
- 5 surgery modules
- 10 sports & therapy modules
- specialty modules for head, hand, radiology, urology, dentistry, spine, and pelvis
Each module consists of multiple highly-detailed layers, allowing the user to peel away the overlying structures and reveal only the features of interest, while also rotating the image 360° in small increments. One can also export images, text, movies, and animations to use in lectures and presentations.
You can access Primal Pictures through the Ovid databases.

New from Stat!Ref--Evidence Alerts
Stat!Ref Evidence Alerts provides email delivery and access to evidence-based medicine information from current research of over 130 premier clinical journals. The system works with McMaster University to deliver pre-rated EBM alerts that are qualified, then rated for clinical relevance and newsworthiness by a panel of practicing physicians. You can choose many disciplines within the 3 major groups (Medicine, Nursing, Rehabilitation) and further narrow your selections by categories, such as Diagnosis and Quality Improvement, and by population groups.
Simply choose the Preferences tab on the main Stat!Ref page and create an account.
You can access your alerts by email or within your Stat!Ref account by choosing the Alerts tab.
