An example of a creative service model from a UM colleague
Some Librarian: Sample Librarian with a Latte Communication
Eric is not a health sciences librarian, but I see how we could easily adapt this model to the hospital coffee shop or to one of the student lounges. Better yet: Angelo's, anyone?

The passing of an era
I wasn't at UM when HealthWeb was founded, but I am here at the time of its dissolution. I'm comfortable with and agree with the HealthWeb Board's decision, but it nonetheless gives me pause to reflect about how much our professional lives have changed in so little time. We, and our partner libraries, continue to contribute to the teaching, research, patient care, and community outreach missions of our parent institutions, but the way in which we do that and the demands it makes upon our time are very different now than they were even five years ago. I'm looking forward to the challenges of the future and what we make of them, but just for a moment I want to acknowledge all the thought and effort that has gone into the efforts on which we build our next generation libraries.
Kudos to HealthWeb, and to its creators and maintainers.

Web 2.0 apps are moving into the mainstream
"WikiHealthCare is a Joint Commission-sponsored wiki application ... the purpose of WikiHealthCare is to foster collaboration among tens of thousands and in due course of time millions of health care professionals. While this has been a dream of many health care quality pioneers, it has only recently become technically possible."

Another point of view
Living the Scientific Life (Scientist, Interrupted): The Mismeasurement of Science
Librarians have long identified the problems and weaknesses of citation analysis and journal impact factors. In this post, the pseudonymous GrrlScientist provides a detailed summary of "The Mismeasurement of Science" by Peter A. Lawrence. Current Biology 17(15):R583-R585, an article on the same subject by a zoologist and professor at the University of Cambridge.

In Memory of Bob Oakley
Georgetown Law - In Memory of Bob Oakley
The unexpected death of Bob Oakley, director of the Georgetown University Law Library, expert on copyright law, and valued colleague and mentor at GU has stunned the campus and all of us who knew him. He will be sorely missed, personally and professionally.
