Managing generational differences at work
Several of us attended a workshop today called Managing Generational Differences at Work. I don't know about the others who attended, but I found some of the information very helpful. Especially interesting is a chart comparing 3 generations with regard to such things as work ethic, attitude toward authority, management style preferred, etc. I have an extra copy of the slides and can route it around if people are interested.

Please put me on the circulation list for the slides, too. So far, I have not been completely convinced by the generational comparisons that I have seen (except for their use of technology), but my mind is still open. Thanks.

Those of you who attended the midwest conference in Springfield Ill a couple of years ago will remember a presentation on this same topic, I believe by a nurse administrator. I thought it was very enlightening -- also presented in a way that had us all laughing.

I attended a similiar session at the Women of Color Task Force Career Conference a few years ago. I thought it was spot on. The workshop participants were very open about sharing their personal observations.

Thanks, Barbara. I read the handout you circulated and was quite interested--previous comparisons I had seen had not been very illuminating, but this particular compilation, although dealing in stereotypes, seems as if it could be helpful to some people in certain workplace situations. At the very least, it emphasizes "diversity" in working styles, and that is "a good thing."
