CarePartner Program - Our Health Informatics Project
I promise to continue reviewing some of the main points from the Health Informatics class I have been taking, but I thought it would be useful to introduce you at this time to the group project we are working on. Our group is working with CarePartner, an experimental program that is using technology to enhance monitoring of patients with Chronic Heart Failure. The system utilizes interactive voice response (IVR) to regularly contact enrolled patients and assess their conditions through their responses to a series of questions. Depending upon the responses, an alert may be automatically generated and immediately sent to the physician. All responses are logged and distributed to physicians and informal caregivers (ICGs). Although the system provides effective communication between patients and physicians, and between ICGs and patients, there is no direct communication between physicians and ICGs. Therefore, our project consists of designing a prototype system to facilitate communication between these entities. Our component involves the design of a blog-based website controlled by assigning patient-specific access to ICGs and clinicians. Communication will be asynchronous, through email, and the message threads will be retained on the website to provide contextual information. Our group is partnering with students in a related class and they are responsible for doing the actual coding. The project should be completed in about another week and I can provide some additional information at that time.

Thanks for this interesting blog, Mike. If you don't mind, I would like to announce it to the rest of the staff--for those who don't have RSS feeds from the blog, okay?
