How to save on loans

We're always thinking about where we want to live next, or what car we want to drive next. It's fun to dream. But then the time comes to actually move or make a big purchase and it's a good idea to figure out the best way to borrow and save at the same time.

I came upon this site that shows you how to determine what a mortgage will cost you in the short and long term so that you can make intelligent decisions. This site has a cool flash applet that allows you to calculate a monthly mortgage for any home price, factoring in interest rates and the number of years for the mortgage. It's amazing to see the difference in total payment in a 15-year and a 30-year mortgage for one house! This monthly mortgage calculator is really worth checking out.

Now if you want a loan for a car, a boat or anything else, these loan calculators are extremely helpful. Again, you plug in different values and see how much you will have to pay, when you take into account the interest rate, term and closing cost. We realized that we really can afford a boat, so now I can't wait until summer.

Web 2.0 Travel Search - Almost

I found a cool travel search site called Kayak.com. They have some of the most advanced and smartest travel search functions I have ever seen. By adding some collaboration functions to site they could really take things to the next level. As you do your searches, the site is always trying to figure out what you are looking for and will try to help you pre-fill your search options to speed up your data entry. I found they don’t always find a best deal, but if I was Orbitz or Expedia I’d keep an eye on this up and comer.

This is a great website idea, and I think they are someone to watch as the build out their website.

Surrealistic Paintings

As a semi-collector of surrealistic art and a big fan of street art festivals, I have always thought that Internet art sales would really take off. Buying art from the comfort of home seems like a great website idea. However, there never have been many quality websites where one could buy art on the Internet. Maybe it’s because people want to see art in person to get a good feel for whether they like it or not. Still, one type of art I think translates well to a website is surreal art prints.

I found this great website that offers a nice viewing gallery of surrealism stretched canvas prints that can be purchased directly from the artist in many different sizes. Their selection is very good and they offer several variations of each print. If you like Surrealistic Paintings as much as I do and what to shop from the comfort of home, sometimes the internet can be a great place to start.

Prehistoric Shark

Dinosaurs and ancient history fascinate me so the sighting and capture of the prehistoric shark off Japan definitely caught my eye. This prehistoric shark is rarely sited and is called prehistoric because it has evolved very little over the past million years - perhaps because of the great depths where it lives has changed very little making evolution unnecessary.

You can view the whole story at this great website, or just watch the youtube video of the prehistoric shark below below. Cool stuff.
