COMPUTER, LAPTOP, TECHNOLOGY CHANGING THE WORLD
It is really amazing to me how much the price of computers has gone down over the past few years. This is a booming industry and these days computers and laptop computers are relatively inexpensive and therefore are becoming a household item.
I remember my very first computer. I got it because it was the in thing and I got a really good deal back then on it, which I think was about $1500. It was basic, but I could see that the computers were becoming more and more popular and increasingly more necessary. I taught myself to use it, simply by trial and error. I couldn't get AOL in my area so I had Earthlink, which honestly is a good thing, but back then I was disappointed, because AOL was all the rage. With Earthlink, however, you had to learn to type in the website pages and stuff, so I think that in the long run it gave me a better understanding of the computer, computer language, and how the whole thing worked. When I would get caught up and couldn't figure my way out, or the computer would freeze, I would simply shut the whole thing down and start it up again or reboot the whole system, and start over. Probably wasn't the best thing to do, however, I didn't have someone to teach me, so I just kept poking away at the thing until I got what I wanted out of it.
Now it seems that just about everyone has a computer, and now most people, especially students have a laptop, which is a great thing for a student, a computer that you can carry around with you everywhere. Even notebooks have become very popular and even though they have lcd screens I don't really care for the current notebooks, as they are just a bit too small for my liking, but that is just a personal preference.
Even though it was only a few years back, it is really difficult for me to imagine life without computers. I do just about everything on mine. It is my dictionary, thesaurus, set of encyclopedias, typewriter, phone book, maps, and shopping catalog. A computer serves so many purposes all at once, I know that now that I have had one and know how to use it, I could never again survive without one.

FINDING A NEW DENTIST MADE EASY WITH ZOCDOC
When you consider moving, you don't really think about all the things that you will have to give up along the way. For instance, I realized that I wouldn't be able to see my family or my friends as often, but I never really thought about the fact that I would have to find a new doctor and dentist. It really never crossed my mind. My first days in New York, I really didn't know anyone, and sure enough I cracked a tooth and needed to get it fixed, after all, it would be near impossible to find a job with half my tooth missing, so I set out to find a dentist in New York. I started out looking online and first I found a Bronx dentist, but that was really no help, because the Bronx was too far to go for a dentist. Then I did find a dentist in Manhattan, but I just felt a little bit leery about going to a dentist that hadn't been referred to me. Not knowing anyone, I decided to go online and see if I could find a dental referral service, and sure enough I did. The name of the site was ZocDoc. I had never heard of it before, but it seemed like a very professional site, so I decided to give it a try. It allowed me to put in my insurance information, so I could find the right dentist who would accept my insurance policy. They also helped me get an appointment lined up right away with a dentist right in the area I live in. I was able to see reviews stating what people thought of them and ratings of the dentists and some had 4-5 stars which I thought was very encouraging and I was able to make an appointment through the online system and was on my way. Well, the dentist was by far the most professional and caring of any dentist I had ever been to. They took care of all the paperwork for me and I was in and out quickly. The doctor was so gentle that I didn't even feel as if they had done any work on me, and yet my tooth was better. I am so happy with the dentist I was able to locate through their online system, that I am sure I will go back again for a full check up in a few months. If you are not sure who to call and you need to find a dentist, be sure to check out the ZocDoc site, it is really easy to use and they will help you find a good dentist fast.

Gifts for boyfriends
I love when magazines put in articles close to the holidays with gifts for him and gifts for her ideas. Although I always know what to get my girl friends and usually my family, buying gifts for guys has always been a problem for women (especially me because I over think everything). My friends and I were just talking about what we were going to get our boyfriends for Christmas. We seriously couldn't think of any good ideas really collectively, which is pathetic. I have been with my boyfriend for about 2 years, so it is safe to say that I know him pretty well. So it upsets me a lot that I can't figure out what to get him for his birthday or Christmas. He's really into sports (like most guys I would assume) so I looked into sports tickets, which Ideally would be a good idea, however we are both away at school so I couldn't find anything good for the time that we are home from break together. Last year I got him DVD's and tickets to go see second city, which was actually really fun, but I really never know what to get him for sure and it stresses me out so much because I really want it to be something good.
Sometimes I wish I was a guy, because I feel like girls are much easier to buy gifts for than boys are. Maybe just because I am a girl so I don't really know the other perspective and I'm sure guys sit around thinking that they wish they had a girl's point of view when shopping, but I still think that it is easier to find a gift for a girl. When I go shopping for my girlfriends for their birthdays I can never decide what to get because I have so many ideas and options that I have to narrow it down. I just don't understand why it's so hard to find a gift for a boy. We know what they like so we should be able to figure out what to get them as a gift but still it seems so hard.
Thankfully though they have that article in a magazine every year about gifts for him and what to get him for Christmas so as soon as it comes out I will be the first one buying it.

Jared Lansky
When I was online the other day I was browsing blogs and came across one by Jared Lansky. It was actually something that really caught my eye for some reason so I clicked in it just to see what it was all about. To be honest, I had no idea who Jared Lansky was, but his blogs are all about internet and online businesses and succeeding in the business area, so I kept reading to learn more.
One of the blogs was called 6 tips from Jared Lansky, which I thought was interesting. It helped me to learn more about this person. I read his tips on how to boost your online advertising. Which actually seemed really practical and helpful. Apparently he works for a company called AdBuySell. And his blog is full of articles and tips on having a successful life (which is something I'm interested in!).
A few of the blogs (well most of them) are about online businesses and advertising and tips on how to better yours. But he also covers a huge range of topics in the business world. He writes about things like creating a successful internet marketing plan, advertising factors that can affect your business, how to make money with marketing and even how to get your advertisements out there for more people to see.
At first this kind of seemed like all of those self help, start business kinds of books that people buy or see on a talk show and then they turn out to be a waste of money or a scam. But after reading into it, I realized he isn't asking for money, just sharing his knowledge (obviously a lot of it) on the subjects of business and internet marketing and advertising. So while you might not agree or use all or any of his tips, it really is worth your while if you are in this particular field (or even if you aren't and are looking to expand whatever business you are in) because the advice is free (which is hard to come by these days) and helpful and honest. It is nice to have someone that has already gone through the marketing and advertising successfully (or maybe not so successfully a few times) to learn lessons from. This was you can use their good ideas (and even their mistakes) to learn from and build upon in your own life.

Puppies and College Kids
Last year I was looking into transferring schools for my major so I didn't really think about where I would live the next year. But then I decided to stay and everyone around me had already signed a lease. So I sent out an email to the girls in my sorority and people I know to see if anyone needed an extra roommate and thankfully three girls in kappa delta emailed me back saying that they had just signed a lease and were looking for a 4th roommate. It seemed perfect to me, I had seen pictures of the house on the website online and the three other girls were the same year in school as me and were involved in the same activities so it sounded like a great idea. The only thing was, I really wanted to get a puppy and had expected to do that when I transferred that nest year, but when I decided to stay I didn't even think about the fact that we might end up getting a house that didn't allow pets.
So the day I went to the house to look around and sign the lease I was reading it over and tears just started pouring down my face. I saw that pets weren't allowed and I was seriously heartbroken. I didn't think I would be as sad as I was but there I was standing there crying on the lease. The landlord just went on and on about how college kids aren't good at taking care of a puppy or any animal for that matter. I was so offended. I would be great at taking care of a puppy. Since my parents were divorced I spent a lot of time cleaning up and making sure everything was on track and helping out with my brothers and sisters, including being the sole caregiver of our dog. I was so hurt when the landlord talked about how irresponsible college kids were and I just remember being furious thinking that he doesn't know me and shouldn't make assumptions. I almost didn't sign the lease because I was so upset.
Thankfully my house for next year allows puppies and we have a fenced in yard and I have 4 other roommates that love dogs and are so eager to help out. We seriously can't wait for our new pup and even the responsibilities that come with him.

LEARNING MORE ABOUT DEDICATED SERVERS
I didn't know anything about dedicated servers, but I wanted to learn more after my father got one at work and it made a world of difference in their internet connection. I asked my parents about it, but they really didn't know much about it, just that it worked much better than it had before and that it was relatively inexpensive for the amount of improvement that it had made. When I got home, I went online to find out more about a dedicated server, and what I found was very interesting.
A dedicated server is a type of internet hosting service where the client leases an entire server not part of a server as is done with other types of internet companies. This is more effective and allows for a better speed of connection and more control over the network itself. This allows a company to have more access to the network and also allows the company to control content and layout on their own server. It is really great for companies, especially if they don't feel that they are getting the most out of their current internet server connections. With 24 hour a day service provided with companies like http://www.alentus.com/dedicated-hosting/server.asp the installation and set up is a breeze and working with a dedicated server on a regular basis you will find that you get the very best customer service and technical support available. They want your internet experience to be the very best that it can be, and their representatives are there all the time to help answer any problems and questions that may arise, although usually these are limited after you have the system set in place the way you want it. It is still nice to know, however, that they are there if you need them. There are not many companies out there that provide you with the best internet server and the best customer service all in one great package, but trust me Alentus does. Try out this company and you will be so impressed you will be a customer of their's for years to come.
