Halloween and Mama Bert

Halloween is obviously known for 2 things: costumes and candy. My friend Jenn's mom for some reason is in love with this holiday. For Christmas and Easter she of course decorates and celebrates accordingly, but for some reason, she really goes overboard for Halloween(keep in mind she is also a 55 year old woman with 3 grown children, or at least all in college). Which seems really weird because most people let Halloween slide by and just go out and buy candy last minute or they just give up celebrating after their kids grow up and move out (well I guess she has one that lives with her, but not during the school year when Halloween is ha). But not mama Bert, she really goes all out.
She has all of these tips for the other parents too. She found this great brand of bulk candy called haribo where she buys every year for this holiday. She always has leftovers too so she gives them out to all the families in the subdivision (luckily for me, I live 3 houses down!). She even has tips on how to carve pumpkins and a whole set of knives and props to help. She takes all of the kids in the subdivision to this really cool pumpkin patch every year (a lot of the other mom's go too, she's not a creepy lady ha). But she has such a great time with it and so do the kids (I remember when I was little I went too!). And she has books and books full of different costume ideas. When we were younger she would help us find costumes that looked really cute on us and she would even go around and help us make them or find the parts at different stores because some of the other parents hated doing that. She was always so much fun.
I think she tried to hold on to the holidays like Halloween because she misses having kids at home, but also, she really is just a fun lady! She goes out of her way to make sure that everyone is having a great time and she is a wonderful hostess too! My friends and I are in college now and we even consider skipping frat parties and bar every year to go home and see her for Halloween.
