Detour: Palmer House Chocolate Fudge Brownies
This week we have a deviation and a detour. It is not 'Brownie Friday' this week, but 'Brownie Thursday' instead. We also decided that the 'Best 52 Brownies' was getting us no where, so we hopped off that path and took a detour to the web to see what could be found. And John came across a recipe that should be included in a 52 Best book: the Palmer House Brownie.

If this is what comes from not using the brownie book I vote to ditch it! (except those raspberry ones those were great) These are a gooey fudgey chocolatey delight! Mmmmmm.

Rich. Decadent. Fudgey. These are just three words to describe the wonderfulness that is the Palmer House Chocolate Fudge Brownie. If this recipe is still in use at Palmer House in Chicago, my hat is off to them. Rarely is it the case that the original perfects something. This is one of those cases. Then again, looking at the ingredient list, how could it not?? If this is, in fact, the first brownie recipe ever, why did people feel the need to tinker with it, resulting in some of the less-than-ideal dishes served thus far in this grand social experiment? The world will never ever know.
Unlike some of the other recipes that the "best" book has included, this is a recipe worth including. My score: 9. Why not a 10? For me, they are just a touch too rich.

Oh my God! Decadent is certainly the most appropriate description for these brownies! So rich, gooey, chocolatey, and full of brownie goodness. Jennifer told me that there's almost a pound of butter in these brownies. Simply amazing!
Score: 9.5

Too rich for even me! And I eat her buttercream frosting out of a tub! That's saying a lot! Sally
