The living earth

It is ancient wisdom that the earth is a living sentient land, unlike plain matter. It has been adored, deified and meditated upon by mystics since ancient times. But what is really a living entity? In my opinion, anything that sensitivity, growth, morphosis and interaction with other living forms is a living being.

The first part of this TED talk gives proof of one subtle component of the living earth: a living network of nourishment and communication that forms the basis of all life. The old perspective was quite chemical in nature - nutrients and ecosystem, but this new insight gives a new dimension to the personality of the living earth.
